Hiking

This hike up to Rifugio Fanes starts in Sciaré. The starting point can be easily reached by public bus (number 465, every 60 minutes). You can reach the entrance to the Dolomites High Trail Number 1 via the meditation path, which leads past the Sass Dlacia Chapel. You can also combine this tour with the high-altitude hike over the Fanes Alp if you have secured a place to sleep in the Rifugio Fanes beforehand reserve. This shortens the tour to around 10 kilometers.

You climb the climb to the Col de Locia on a fragile but secured path. Here you have almost reached the Fanes plateau, but before you can get an idea of its unique geomorphological history, a few benches offer you a nice place to rest.

The Dolomites owe the characteristic pale colors and incredible shapes of their rocks to a very special process: 250 million years ago the entire area was under water, as part of the ancient sea Tethys. The Dolomites themselves were huge coral reefs that were formed over millions of years by natural marine deposits and were only lifted out of the sea by tectonic plate shifts.

Your path takes you over the karst plateau into the rear Fanes Valley to the Rio di Fanes. Here you can rest in the Ucia de Gran Fanes mountain hut or continue directly up to the Alpine lake Lago di Limo and the Rifugio Fanes. You can spend the night there or return on the same route.

When the weather is good you have a wonderful view of the Sella group, the smallest mountain range in the Dolomites. The Piz Boe forms the highest point of the plateau-shaped mountain range.

What great nature! Climb over the Col di Loggia (it goes well uphill, a bit exciting, but super secured with railings!!!) There are some cows in the plateau (super chilled out!) and there are horses around the Malga di Fanes. Everything looks very idyllic!!!

Tour to the legendary Fanes region, which is surrounded by a ring of mountains. The legend of the Fanes kingdom is the national epic of the Ladin people in South Tyrol. The hike was definitely magical.
