Trail Reviews

Els
October 21, 2024, vanuit chassepierre naar ongekende hoogtes

Very nice walk, but again one with big obstacles by the unruly river semois. First climbed quite a bit to avoid the flooded paths. But it became too dangerous, so we went back and walked a bit differently to get back on the route.

Even the 4th time this walk continues to amaze, always new wonders of nature. I will continue to do this, ideal in terms of kms and great off-road. Only the first 1500M asphalt/country road to warm up.

ᵂᴱᴿᴮᵁᴺᴳ Back in the Belgian Ardennes! 🤩🌳⛰️🇧🇪 After I was out and about here in Wallonia on my gravel bike a year ago (click here for the collection 👉 https://www.komoot.com/de-de/collection/2262595 ), I'm now allowed to explore the area on foot for a few days. On part of the 200-kilometer-long GR16, the Sentier de la Semois. The Semois is a river that rises in Arlon in the Belgian province of Luxembourg and flows into the Meuse in France. Its valley, together with the region between the Sambre and Meuse further west, is one of the first two national parks in Wallonia. 🙏 And on the first stage today I quickly understand why this region is so special. 😌 It starts in Florenville, actually less than four kilometers as the crow flies from the destination Chassepierre. But since the GR16 often follows the numerous serpentine lines of the Semois, the clock ends up showing twelve kilometers. Shortly after leaving the center of Florenville, I'm already hiking through the forest, past the first great view over the green hills and meadows. Along a gravel path across fields and past cow pastures, I soon reach the Semois - and a small hiking trail that leads up and down directly along its enchanted banks. Because I started right after arriving and it is already late afternoon, the sun is low and bathes the landscape in a warm light. At the first viewpoint, a small rock above the Semois, in the middle of densely wooded hills, I can hardly believe my hiking luck - not knowing that an EVEN better one, the Point de vue La Bohanan, will soon be waiting for me. The last few kilometers of the tour take me along a quiet little road through the sleepy Laiche to Chassepierre, which is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Wallonia. The name is derived from the Latin expression "casa petrea", which means "stone house". And the houses, including the white-painted church, look particularly wonderful in the now golden evening light and right on the banks of the gently flowing Semois. 🛌: La Vieille Ferme (Unfortunately there is no breakfast, but you can have breakfast at Le Relais de Chassepierre next door and alternatively stay overnight there.) 🍟🥤: Supermarket in Florenville; no food on the way; restaurants in Chassepierre
