Lumley Moor Reservoir

Highlight • Structure

The small dam was originally built for the city of Ripon. These days, it belongs to Yorkshire Water. Paths go essentially around all of it, making for a very pleasant walk.

Trail Reviews

RichD
May 23, 2026, High Grantley - Greygarth Monument - Lumley Moor Reservoir

This route exceeded my expectations with a diverse mix of coniferous woodland, moorland, meadows, lots of becks and fords, and spectacular views all the way east to the North York Moors from Greygarth Monument. My photos don't do the route justice, and the time of year and early morning sun almost certainly contributed to the route's appeal. The first couple of miles out of High Grantley are paved backroads, but they are narrow and quiet. The rest of the route comprised decent quality bridleways and footpaths.
