We started from the Rheinaue Binger-Krippen hiking car park on the B9
Despite the somewhat inconsistent weather forecast, I made my way to the Rhine today. I parked my car in Bingen on the banks of the Rhine - near the Papa Rhein Hotel, where you can park for free on the hard shoulder. The Rheinufer car park is a few hundred meters away, and a day pass costs here 4 €. Since it is well known that the Rhine is not that steep, I did not turn on the "e" on my bike. I cycled along the Rhine Cycle Path to St. Goar. Some do not find the piece from Bacharach to St. Goar so nice because the bike path is right on the busy road. It didn't bother me that much because I always look at the water anyway. In St. Goar there was the obligatory 🍦🍧🍨 - but when I was about to sit down on the Rhine, there was a heavy shower. It still rained for some time and on the way back I didn't like the way on the road, because the water from the cars splashed down onto the bike path. But it got dry again. The Rhine, the many castles, the view of the Loreley and the Rheingau - the route is really very beautiful and varied. In Trechtingshausen I turned on the turbo of the "e" because it started to rain again. So it was with a heavy heart that I decided not to end the evening in Bingen on the banks of the Rhine. By the way, you can also park for free on the Rhine in Oberwesel and St. Goar if you take the parking spaces at the exit / entrance to the village.
On the hottest day of the year so far, I was out and about from 7:30 a.m., when the temperature was still a pleasant 21 degrees Celsius. By the end of the tour, around 11 a.m., it had reached 30 degrees Celsius. From 9 a.m. onward, the bike path became quite crowded in places, mostly with groups of tourists. But of course, the Rhine Valley is especially beautiful in the bright sunshine. We're happy to welcome our guests.
Sunshine and wind, about 12 degrees. Because of the wind up to 45 km/h in gusts, I once again chose the route in the Rhine Valley. Lots of people were out and about today, Shrove Monday, there was a parade in Oberwesel, everything was parked up along the B9. But with the bike you have no problem.
The Rhine Valley already shimmers green, decorated with white flowers and other colors. You can see on the slopes how high spring has already climbed towards the Hunsrück or Taunus. The Rhine has quite a lot of water. And the geese that hissed at me on the last route are either breeding in the meadows or have noticed that the cycle path has to be divided. Only their legacies show that they are still there.
At a mild 8 degrees, we cycled the beautiful -and clean- route along the Rhine again. Sure, the photos are just marked by winter and a bit dreary. But that's the way it is...
Today is set to be one of the hottest days of 2022. So I started the tour at around 8 a.m., at 20 degrees, and when I returned to Bingen it was exactly 30 degrees. Otherwise super clear weather, bright blue sky. Unfortunately, the Rhine has worryingly little water.
Driven one of my favorite routes again. The landscape is very autumnal, but beautiful. The workers on the mountainside near Oberwesel, who are securing the slope there, are once again impressed. Otherwise you notice that there are only a few tourists around.
