Allgäuer Käsestraße Tour 4: BlütenKäse Runde

The BlütenKäse Tour leads 26 kilometers through the flower-rich and beautiful West Allgäu region, with its lush green meadows, colorful flowers and herbs along the way, sparse forests, and scattered farmsteads. Stunning views, three dairies, a traditional brewery, shopping, city life, and cozy restaurants alternate on this half-day tour. The focus is on many different types of hay-milk cheese, sprinkled with all kinds of flower mixtures. Wildflowers, marigolds, alpine blossoms, and much more are used.

The BlütenKäse Tour starts in Weiler-Simmerberg. The market town of Weiler-Simmerberg is idyllically situated in the border triangle between Austria, Switzerland, and Germany, nestled among meadows, pastures, and forests, in the middle of the wide, tranquil Rothach Valley. There is plenty of free parking on site. We recommend taking the tour counterclockwise. The tour is most beautiful in spring and summer, when everything is in bloom and the orchards are in full bloom.

From Weiler, you'll initially cycle up moderate climbs to the town of Lindenberg. A little later, you'll reach the turnoff to Goßholz, where Baldauf's Cheese and Wine Cellar invites you to take a break. There, you can sample a good piece of Allgäu tradition: Baldauf Alpine cheese is the star product of the Baldauf cheese range and an ideal fortification for the tour. From the cheese cellar, you can either take the cycle path along the main road directly to Lindenberg or return to the original Allgäu Cheese Route cycle path and cycle without traffic to the center of Lindenberg. The small town was once famous for its hat production. Today, you can relive 300 years of hat fashion and learn interesting facts about the hat industry at the Hat Museum.

Two cozy inns in the mountain town invite you to take a break: The Lindenberger Hof won the district award in the "Allgäu/Bavarian Cuisine" competition. At the "Bayerischer Hof" inn, the kitchen team will spoil you with regional specialties. Back on the cycle path, you continue on to Scheidegg. Our tip: A few kilometers detour to the Ratzenberg estate is always worth it on this part of the tour. Here, the organic farm cheese dairy, farm restaurant, and farm shop are all under one roof, and you can buy the farm's own, organically produced finest meat, sausage, and cheese specialties directly on site in the farm shop or enjoy them in the farm restaurant.

Scheidegg is also known as the "sun terrace above Lake Constance" and is a well-known and award-winning "Climatic Health Resort" Premium Class and "Kneipp Health Resort" Premium Class. Thanks to its privileged location, Scheidegg appears almost every year on the lists of places with the most hours of sunshine in Germany. From there, with stunning views, you continue to Böserscheidegg and the Böserscheidegg village dairy. Since 1985, mountain cheese and other specialties such as herb cheese and red wine cheese have been produced there using traditional methods from high-quality, GMO-free hay milk. From the dairy, you return to the cycle path and cycle downhill via Altenburg to Bremenried. Here, cheese and butter are still made according to old traditions in the hay milk dairy.

After this final stop, you return to the starting point in Weiler. Shortly before the church, we recommend turning left into Käsgasse, which leads directly to the Weiler Post Brewery. A guided tour there is also worthwhile (book in advance), including a Zwickel beer tasting followed by a stop at the Bräustüble (brewery). The perfect end to the tour!

The Böserscheidegg Village Dairy is a cooperative of eight farmers whose ancestors joined forces over 100 years ago. The dairy cows are fed meadow herbs from the Allgäu highlands and aromatic hay. Using high-quality, GMO-free raw milk, the master cheesemaker uses traditional methods to produce mountain cheese and other specialties. Since 1985, Böserscheidegg has been producing mountain cheese and butter from hay milk. In recent years, additional gourmet cheeses have been introduced. These include cream cheese, various herb cheeses, and a spicy red wine cheese. The homemade cheeses are naturally gluten- and lactose-free.

Bremenried Dairy

Highlight • Restaurant

The Bremenried dairy has been in existence for 125 years. It is one of the last "original dairies" in the Allgäu. Cheese is made by hand, as it should be – according to old traditions and handed-down recipes.

With a high probability of rain and forecasted rainfall of up to 100L/m², I chose a short route just to be on the safe side.🤦‍♂️
Why, exactly? Not a single drop of water.🤣🙋‍♂️
