Hike from Colere to Albani refuge

Hiking

At the Luigi Albani refuge you can enjoy up close the charm of the walls of Presolana, the queen of the Orobie. Its white limestone varies from shade to shade as the color of the sky varies: dazzling like the sun during the day, red like the sunset, dark before a storm.

From the Carbonera hamlet of Colere go up the forest road that leads to the Polzone hut for about a kilometer until you reach an altitude of 1,239 metres. Take the path on the left and continue walking, crossing the woods.

At this point continue on the left to the south, reach the area of the former huts that once constituted the village of the Fluorite mines and from here in a few minutes you arrive at the Luigi Albani refuge in the Polzone basin.

From the refuge you can continue further and reach the Scagne pass and enjoy a wonderful view of the Presolana and the valleys below.

The history of the refuge is very interesting. In 1912 some partners took over two miners' huts from the "Vieille Montagne" mining company. After having arranged and furnished them, they made them available to mountaineers, baptizing them with the names "Trento" and "Trieste".

In 1924 โ€œTriesteโ€ was donated to the CAI of Bergamo who dedicated it to Luigi Albani, illustrious mountaineer and first climber of the north face of Presolana. In 1927 the hut was destroyed by a dynamite explosion and subsequently rebuilt.

As the years passed, the hut underwent a slow deterioration which led to the construction of the new Luigi Albani refuge in 1965, located at 1,939 meters above sea level, about 200 meters from the old hut.

Trail Reviews

Alessandro Antonini
October 29, 2022, Al Rif. Albani e passo dello Scagnello

Challenging route, but which offers beautiful views over the Val di Scalve and the Presolana. The remains of the fluorite mine are interesting. The refuge is closed for renovation until December.

Once you reach the parking lot at the foot of the chairlift (5 euros), you go up following the well-marked path with Albani signs. We wanted to go to Aquila but after Cima Bianca the path is close to the slopes and it's not the best, there was an alternative route but there was too much snow and without snowshoes you would sink too deep. At that point we returned to Albani to refresh ourselves ๐Ÿคช
