The Sintra National Palace in the old town was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995.
Of all the palaces erected throughout the Middle Ages by the Portuguese monarchs, only that of Sintra has survived to this day practically intact, preserving the essence of its configuration and silhouette since the mid-16th century.

August 30, 2022, 🇵🇹 Portugal_Sintra <> Castelo dos Mouros <> Palácio da Pena <> Sassetti Village ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Visiting Sintra is an absolute must when in the area. The castle as well as the many beautiful paths/paths and landscaped gardens are really gorgeous. The absolute tourist magnet........ the castle, but is (for me at least) quite a disappointment. Well, in principle I'm not so interested in such historical things, but the chaos that prevails there due to the crowds........ unbelievable. And that to look at a few rooms 😩 I was glad when we were out there again. Wouldn't recommend to anyone in high season. Overall, I would recommend everyone to be there early in the morning.......... no matter what you want to see. Or just go there in the off-season. We were at the castle when it opened at 9:30 a.m. and therefore had it completely to ourselves, a dream 😍 But that was of little use to us at the palace (as the pictures also show). Nevertheless, the whole thing is absolutely recommendable...... from the palace. From the parking lot from which we started, it is not far to the castle via the "Stairway" and you can escape the parking chaos around the palace a bit. This is also free.
