This 50.6-kilometer loop is rated as a difficult touring bicycle ride, requiring very good fitness. You should be prepared for significant elevation gains and steep sections, particularly when departing from Le Tréport and navigating the Yères valley in Criel-sur-Mer.
This is a loop trail, starting and ending in Le Tréport, offering a circular journey along the coast and inland.
The route starts from Le Tréport. You can find parking options within the town, particularly near the lively fishing port, which serves as a convenient starting point for the loop.
The route primarily features paved surfaces, often utilizing shared, less-frequented small roads and rural paths. However, be ready for steep inclines, especially when climbing out of Le Tréport and through the Yères valley near Criel-sur-Mer. While mostly paved, some 'hard' routes in this region can occasionally include unpaved or difficult segments where you might need to push your bike.
You'll experience spectacular coastal views of the towering white chalk cliffs of the Côte d'Albâtre, which can reach up to 106 meters. Key highlights include the Le Tréport Cliff Path, the View of the Cliffs of Criel-sur-Mer, and the impressive White cliffs themselves. The route also features 'valleuses' (steep valleys cutting to the sea), expansive inland fields, and the charming Belle Époque villas and fishing port of Le Tréport.
Yes, this route is integrated into the larger Vélomaritime (EuroVelo 4) network, a significant long-distance cycling route. It also covers sections of the Dieppe - Le Tréport trail (82%) and Mont Jolibois (16%).
The trail is best enjoyed during seasons with pleasant weather, typically spring through early autumn, to fully appreciate the coastal views and avoid harsh winds or rain. Sunset offers a particularly magnificent spectacle as the cliffs can display pink hues.
No, there are no specific permits or entrance fees required to cycle this public route.
While the route is primarily on paved roads and paths, its classification as a 'difficult' touring bicycle ride with steep sections means it might not be ideal for all dogs, especially if they are expected to keep pace or be carried for long stretches. Consider your dog's fitness and comfort for a challenging cycling environment.
Yes, Le Tréport offers a lively fishing port with various amenities. Criel-sur-Mer also serves as a notable stopping point where you can enjoy views and find places to rest or grab refreshments.
In Le Tréport, beyond the vibrant port and architecture, you can find the Kahl-Burg, a World War II military structure dug into the cliff, offering a unique historical point of interest.
Our bike tour today took us up and down towards Dieppe. We took short breaks in Criel Plage and Saint-Martin Plage and admired the steep cliffs. The highlight of the tour, however, was our delicious lunch in Petit-Caux. The Renouveau restaurant fulfilled all my wishes for a perfect French lunch 😋. On the outward leg of the bike tour, we had such a strong headwind that we had to pedal hard even on the downhills 😅. On the return leg, however, we were lucky that the wind didn't change for once, allowing us to ride back in a gusty breeze. That was a good thing, because we were caught in a heavy rain shower ☔️ and were glad to be back at the motorhome quickly. Refreshment tip: ***** Le Renouveau in Petit-Caux: We stopped here for lunch during a bike tour and were absolutely thrilled. The 3-course lunch menu for €17 was a poem. Every single course was lovingly prepared and incredibly delicious. The value for money (including the drinks) is excellent. We also appreciated the welcoming atmosphere and attentive service. We thank the entire team for the lovely lunch break 🤗. I would happily recommend this friendly restaurant 👌. https://share.google/TBZMppbHmkBtAsV2C
