This route was planned by komoot.
The ascent to Pico Viejo via the Roques de Garcia is easily doable. The path gets a little better from 2800 m above sea level. The descent further west via the 9/28 is strenuous because it goes over loose material in places. In some places you can't even guess where the path is. The only thing that helps is to look at the app to see if you're still on the right track. As night falls, with the last rays of sun, you can see a rock formation with the Holy Virgin (picture 30). 😉
The decision based on the weather situation - CANJADAS. And where? Up to Pico Viejo. We quickly got warmer from the Parador at a pleasant 10 degrees. The extremely clear weather gave us fantastic views over the Canjadas. We planned the way back via the Nostrils (small ash volcanoes on the flank of Pico Viejo) towards Samara. But missed the upper path. Unfortunately, the lower alternative route was now closed. So we avoided Sendero 9 - lots of ash passages 😫 later on via Sendero 28 - extremely boring 😴😴 to the Poca Tauche car park. Despite everything, it was another successful round.
