The trail network at Emerald Mountain is a great playground for all mountain bike newbies and fans of easy singletrack where you can really let loose. You can ride the trails at Emerald Mountain easily from the city and combine them as you like. On this Tour, I'll show you a small selection of beautiful trails that wind along Emerald Mountain, Steamboat Springs' local mountain.
Starting at a car park next to the ski jumps, the Lupine Trail takes you uphill. With every turn of your pedals, the trail becomes quieter and lonelier. You'll never be far from the city, but the paths still won’t be overcrowded.
After almost 5 kilometres (3 mi), you’ll reach a beautiful viewpoint – perfect for a short break. From here, you can admire Steamboat Springs from above and look over to Mount Werner.
What follows is a short, snappy climb that’s been christened Little Moab. This rocky path is steep and has many steps one after the other. This section is reminiscent of the MTB hotspot in Utah. The path is short, however, and you can avoid it on a wide gravel path.
Next, you’ll follow the Quarry Mountain Trail, which takes you to the Root Canal Trail. Once you've mastered the latter, a fun, not-too-difficult descent begins. The program includes Stairway to Heaven, MGM and NPR. These fast and winding paths will take you back to the starting point in no time.
