Mountain biking

Glancing at your GPS track, you might think that this route is an out-and-back, but you’d be wrong. Since autumn 2019, in addition to the well-known Spring Creek Trail, a parallel trail called Spring Roll has run through the pretty Spring Creek Canyon. And the great thing is: Downhill mountain bikers have this route all to themselves.

Now you can combine both trails into a wonderful loop that begins and ends in Steamboat Springs. It starts at a car park in the city centre. After a short distance, you reach the entrance to the popular Spring Creek Trail, where you pedal almost 350 metres (1,150 ft) uphill to the Dry Lake Trailhead.

Many other great mountain bike trails start at this location. You can do another lap up here and take on trails such as Flash of Gold, Panorama or Fiddlehead before you rush back on the Spring Roll Trail.

The downhill is fast and packed with loads of features. Sometimes, mini jumps at the side of the path invite you to make smaller and larger jumps and you’ll occasionally roll over huge rocks. It’s just great!

This varied downhill spits you out on the gravel road that you already know from the beginning of the Tour. You’ll roll back to Steamboat Springs on this gravel, where you can look back on your adventure in one of the many cosy restaurants.

Spring Creek Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

The Spring Creek Trail is an easy trail that takes you up to the Dry Lake Trailhead. But be careful: this path is also used by many hikers. So be considerate, stop and let them pass - they have the right of way.

Dry Lake Trailhead

Highlight • Parking

Although the parking lot is quite big, the trailhead fills up quickly especially when the aspens shimmer golden in late September. Check this webcam before you drive up to the Dry Lake Trailhead to find out if there are still lots available: share.earthcam.net/tJ90CoLmq7TzrY396Yd88PN-LGPG_7LcFwWSD6ItD3c!/steamboat_usda_forest_service_dry_lake_trailhead/camera/view_1 .

Spring Roll Trail

Highlight (Segment) • MTB Park

Super fun downhill trail that leads to Steamboat Springs. The trail has lots of optional features, some of them are big jumps that are not rollable.
