Disabled Ramblers Category Level 3.

A more exposed route best saved for better weather days, this is a longer 6.5-mile (10.5 km) Tour from the layby car park at Rowtor along the old Military Circular Road. There aren’t any facilities along the route, and it’s also in the military firing zone, so check firing times before you travel at www.gov.uk/government/publications/dartmoor-firing-programme.

From Rowtor car park, it’s recommended that you follow the loop anti-clockwise, taking in the hill to start. You’ll start with magnificent views of Yes Tor and High Willhays. At over 600 metres (2,000 ft), these are the only two official mountains on Dartmoor.

Head south, crossing the water at New Bridge, following the Black-a-ven Brook valley to gradually climb upstream. You’ll pass East Mill Tor on your left before reaching the high point of the route, Okement Hill.

Follow the track around to the east before heading back along the Military Circular Road on the other side of East Mill Tor. There’s a water crossing to ford here, so do take care and avoid this route after heavy rain as it can become impassable.

After the small rocky outcrop and military hut of Hart Tor, you’re nearly back where you started. If you’re looking for refreshments nearby, I’d highly recommend the Tors Inn at Belstone, a short drive away.

Okement Hill Bunker

Highlight • Structure

At 564 m Okement Hill is one of the higher points you can easily and legally ride to on northern Dartmoor. The MOD trails around this area are great fun to ride around and allow bike access to some of the higher rocky Tors. Amazing views northwest towards Yes Tor, southeast towards Hangingstone Hill and in all other directions across the moor.

For easy walking, the Military Circular Road is a great way to link up tors to the north of the moor near Okehampton. As you might expect from the name, it's a loop from the Army Training Camp south to Okement Hill, partially paved and partially gravel. Along this eastern side, there's also a water crossing where you ford the East Okement River.

This is within the military firing area, so make sure you check firing times before heading out on your Tour: gov.uk/government/publications/dartmoor-firing-programme

Hart Tor

Highlight • Summit

Hart Tor is situated at the end of the paved road from White Bridge, as far as you can drive onto the moor here.

Besides the rather unassuming rocky granite outcrop, there's a military hut here as it's also on the edge of the military firing area, so make sure you check firing times before heading out on your Tour:
