Wandering through the Korte and Lange Duinen

If you think you have to drive to the coast for a walk through the dunes, you are wrong. You can also get a breath of fresh air in the middle of the Netherlands in the middle of the drifting sand. You will experience it yourself during this walk of over 9 kilometers, strolling through the dunes of Soest.

Today you will pass through a unique dune landscape twice, namely that of the Short and Long Dunes. Together the areas form the Soester Duinen. This used to be one large drifting sand area, but nowadays the sand plains are separated by a lovely forest.

A path that is very interesting from a historical point of view to walk on this route are the wooded banks. The hedgerows have their history in medieval traditional agriculture. The ramparts ensured, among other things, that cattle did not run away and marked the border of the country.

In addition to the unique dune landscape, you will also walk through the Birkhoven forest area today. Here you walk on forest paths and heathland and along serene waters. You will also visit the special Pinetum. A pinetum is a conifer garden, so a collection of wonderfully scented pine trees awaits you here.

Just before the end of the walk you will pass Het Bos-Thuis, a cozy place in the middle of the forest. Inside, the cafe is decorated in a forest theme and you can enjoy a snack and drink after a walk. You are also very welcome here with your laptop, so anyone who works from home for a day can settle down here and enjoy nature during their break.

The circular walk starts and ends at the Zonnegloren car park, where there is ample parking space. Are you coming by public transport? Then you take the bus to the Soestduinen stop.
