Very nice little loop above Bernkastel-Kues with a great view from Landshut Castle 👍
Nice easy walk for the whole family. Beautiful view over the beautiful Moselle and the vineyards.
Hiking of a different kind than usual was on my agenda today🥾🥾. As part of a weekend trip to the Moselle – the participants ranged in age from zero to eighty – a hike was planned for Sunday morning. Naturally, the route was limited to a family-friendly option, a good four kilometers long😊. Since there were still quite a few meters of elevation to overcome on the steep slopes leading up to Landshut Castle, which had been chosen as an intermediate destination, the elderly member of the family and a few (foot) sufferers preferred the comfortable motorized ascent on the "Landshut Express"🚌😁. A diverse team of eleven people set out on the arduous journey on foot🚶♀️🚶🚶♂️, right on the Moselle River in the town of Bernkastel-Kues. After starting off through the narrow streets of the old town of the Bernkastel district, lined with colorful half-timbered houses, the climb began gently. We worked our way up through Burgstrasse and below the local cemetery until, after a good kilometer, we reached a hiking trail along the Tiefenbach stream. The route was easily accessible, leading above an old mill and past the entrance to a small cave. We crossed several bridges over the mountain stream, which cascaded into the valley with an audible roar. A short descent brought us to a path from which we could observe an impressive waterfall. From there, however, there were several steps to climb. It was rather unsuitable for the stroller we were carrying, but with combined strength, we overcame the obstacles. Above, we briefly came to a road where we paid a quick visit to the beautifully situated Tinkel Chapel. Soon we turned back onto a path leading through a lush green deciduous forest, which ran pleasantly flat along the steep slopes🌳. Not long after, we reached our destination, the Landshut Castle ruins. We admired the historic walls, enjoyed the magnificent views of the Moselle Valley 👍, and fortified ourselves—together with the group members who had ascended by express—at a restaurant offering spectacular panoramic views☕️🍰. Afterwards, we quickly descended again, initially taking a traffic-free road through the vineyards. A detour took us back into the countryside (okay, not those with strollers, for obvious reasons😬), where we followed a narrow path to the St. Anne Chapel. This stood in an exclusive spot overlooking the Moselle Valley and offered even more wonderful views👁️👁️. Various switchbacks led us along a crossroads before we descended again on paved ground👇. Our gaze kept falling on the castle, perched on the upper right, until we approached Bernkastel. We walked through a pretty street to the densely populated central market square🏠, from which, after a few meters, we reached the destination of what was, for me, an unusual but nevertheless very successful hike. Conclusion: Hiking with a difference🥾🥾 – also very beautiful👍!
Today we went to Bernkastel-Kues. The place is very popular and the restaurants are full at lunchtime. But once you reach the hiking trail there are far fewer people around. The waterfall, the castle and the view from the castle into the Moselle valley are worth seeing.
With real April weather, we made good use of the rain breaks. After the first heavy shower including grains of sleet, the 🌞 came through again and we set off on our bikes to the starting point of the hike. When we had just made the climb to Landshut Castle, which towers majestically above Bernkastel, the next pour went down. Dark gray skies and heavy rain made the cake in the castle restoration taste EVEN BETTER. When it got light again, we were able to enjoy a fantastically beautiful view over the city from the castle. Bernkastel is really beautiful and definitely worth a visit!
This circular route is not signposted, I found the tour at Outdooractive and you can rely on this route description! A very interesting and relaxed circular hike. I started back at my hotel. Then past the old town in the direction of Burg Landshut, Schlossweg, via serpentines it went through a grove to the Annakapelle and Kreuzweg, then to Burg Landshut with a great panorama, then back into the Kueser grove, to the Tinkelkapelle (Maria-Hilf) and to the beautiful waterfall, then along the Tiefenbach back to Bernkastel Kues! With subsequent stop!
What lovely weather 🌞...again this week. Today we went to Bernkastel-Kues, with a boat trip 🛳️ on the Moselle, a short hike to the waterfall, and a tour of the castle. Landshut Castle is the ruins of a hilltop castle in Bernkastel-Kues in the Bernkastel-Wittlich district of Rhineland-Palatinate.
