Mountain biking

Embark on an easy mountain biking adventure along the Adda River and Naviglio della Martesana canal, a route that combines lush riverbanks with wooded sections. This 12.3-mile (19.8 km) trail, which you can typically complete in about 1 hour and 17 minutes, features a diverse mix of surfaces, including significant singletrack and dirt roads, alongside paved sections. As you ride, you will encounter panoramic views of the Adda River and pass by historical structures like the 14th-century Trezzo Castle, with an elevation gain of 585 feet (178 metres).

While generally considered easy and suitable for various fitness levels, mountain bikers will appreciate the challenge of specific singletrack sections and dirt roads. If you are looking for a slightly steeper climb, you might encounter short, steep ascents up to 20% gradient in areas like Villa Gina. For your convenience, mountain bike and city bike rentals are available in Vaprio d'Adda, making it easy to start your journey along this scenic path.

This trail is particularly notable for blending natural beauty with rich history, offering glimpses of natural oases within the Parco Adda Nord. You will ride past noble villas, such as Villa Melzi in Vaprio d'Adda, which once hosted Leonardo Da Vinci, and might even spot unique wooden statues depicting local legends. The path along the Adda River and Naviglio della Martesana is a popular choice among local mountain bikers, providing a dynamic riding experience with its varied terrain and historical landmarks.

Trezzo sull'Adda Castle

Highlight • Castle

According to tradition, it was built in the early Middle Ages by Queen Teodolinda, queen of the Lombards (between the 6th and 7th centuries).

Barnabò Visconti was locked up there until his death by his nephew Gian Galeazzo, who had ousted him.

The castle underwent a serious period of decline in the nineteenth century, when it was even transformed into a quarry for already squared building materials.

It is currently used as a backdrop for open-air cultural and artistic events.
