Hiking

You start this approximately 14 kilometer long tour at the national park gate in Rurberg in the immediate vicinity of Lake Rursee. There you can first look around and get information about the national park. You can also visit the “Lifelines of Nature” exhibition.

Then you set off. Immediately after you leave Rurberg, a steep climb awaits you. Once you reach the top, however, you will be rewarded with a great view over Lake Rursee. You now turn away from the lake and walk along meadows and fields around the Weidenbachtal.

As soon as you get closer to the Rursee again, you will have many great views of the valley and over the lake. After descending back into the valley, you reach a small chapel near the Weidenbacher mill. Rye and oats used to be ground there. Today, however, the building is privately owned.

Afterwards you just have to overcome a small hill until you reach Rurberg and the lakeshore. If you didn't do so at the beginning of the tour, you can still pay a visit to the national park gate or stop off at one of the lovely cafés.

View of the Rursee

Highlight • Viewpoint

Crisp increase from Rurberg to Steckenborn. However, it is worth the effort. From up here you have a beautiful view of the Rursee and the extensive forests of the Eifel National Park. On a clear day you can see the former NS Ordensburg Vogelsang in the distance.

Very nice hiking trail but unfortunately the *44* is missing on many trails or is damaged. We also started from Kesternich.

The Rursee-Höhenweg starts at the Rurseezentrum Rurberg and leads over forest paths above the lake. The route has a moderate incline and leads through mixed forest and meadow paths. The signage is good. Walked the trail in June 26 great views.
Hardly any hikers on the trail.
The trail has the number 44.

The initial section (uphill) of the circular tour, which I walked counterclockwise, was quite strenuous. Several times along the way, I thought a hungry wild boar was about to appear. Meanwhile, acorns were constantly falling from the trees, uninvitedly interrupting the silence of the forest.
Apart from a few dogs with their owners and tractors, there was nothing and nobody …
