Quarry Cove and Seal Viewing at Yaquina Head

Highlight • Beach

The Landsporn at Yaquina Head is touristically v.a. known for its lighthouse, dating back to the 19th century, and the highest on the Oregon coast (though not particularly high). At least as interesting, however, is the wild coastal landscape all around. Very close to the coast are some steep bird cliffs, where you can observe the breeding seabirds even with the naked eye, especially with binoculars. Supposedly 60,000 guillemots breed here, plus a few other species. And even gray whales and seals can be discovered here.

Yaquina Head Lighthouse

Highlight • Monument

Located a little north of Newport, Yaquina Head Lighthouse sits on the peninsula of the same name. With a height of 93 feet, it is the tallest lighthouse in Oregon and a popular landmark. The lighthouse was part of multiple series and movies, of which 'The Ring' (2002) is probably the best known.
