Hiking
Embark on the St Nectan's Glen & Rocky Valley loop for an easy 4.1-mile (6.6 km) hike through diverse Cornish landscapes. You will gain about 402 feet (123 metres) in elevation over approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes. The trail guides you through ancient woodlands, where the River Trevillet flows, before opening up to rugged coastal scenery with panoramic views of the Rocky Valley and the turquoise sea. You can expect to see the impressive 60-foot (18-meter) St Nectan's Glen Waterfall, a highlight of the route.
Good footwear, like walking boots, is recommended, especially since forest paths can become muddy after rain. The trail includes sections along the South West Coast Path, offering spectacular coastal vistas over Willapark headland. Be aware that some paths run close to unfenced cliff edges, so exercise caution. Access to the St Nectan's Glen Waterfall usually requires a small admission fee, which helps with its upkeep.
This loop is notable for its blend of natural beauty and historical intrigue. The dramatic Rocky Valley features ancient woodland and canyons, with the river leading to a waterfall that cascades into the sea. Keep an eye out for mysterious circular labyrinth carvings on the rock face within the valley, thought by some to be very old. You will also pass the ruins of medieval mills, including the 18th-century Trevillet Mill, adding a historical layer to your hike.
