The Barranco de la Torre - Caleta de Fuste Trail is approximately 10.5 kilometers (6.5 miles) long and generally takes around 2 hours and 40 minutes to complete, depending on your pace.
This trail is rated as moderate. While generally manageable, sections can be stony, and hikers should be prepared for potentially windy conditions, especially on exposed parts. Comfortable, athletic footwear is recommended.
The terrain offers a striking contrast. The Barranco de la Torre section features impressive lava rock walls and a largely flat, rocky dry riverbed. As you approach Caleta de Fuste, the landscape transitions to more urbanized coastal paths and promenades. Some sections can be stony, and you might encounter 'deserted land' areas.
Yes, the trail offers several points of interest. You'll experience the natural beauty of the Barranco de la Torre gorge. As you near Caleta de Fuste, you can visit Las Salinas del Carmen, the salt pans, and the nearby Whale skeleton. The route also passes by the Castillo Marina (Castillo Marina Port).
Fuerteventura generally offers pleasant hiking weather year-round. However, to avoid the hottest temperatures and strong summer sun, the cooler months from autumn through spring (October to May) are often preferred for hiking. Be prepared for potentially windy conditions regardless of the season.
While specific rules for this exact trail are not detailed, many trails in Fuerteventura are dog-friendly. It's always best to keep your dog on a leash, especially in areas with wildlife or near agricultural land, and to carry enough water for both yourself and your pet.
No, there are no permits or entrance fees required to hike the Barranco de la Torre - Caleta de Fuste Trail. It is publicly accessible.
For the Barranco de la Torre section, access can be rough, with some parts better suited for 4x4 vehicles or approached on foot from the beach. Near Caleta de Fuste, there are more developed coastal paths and parking options available within the town itself, allowing you to start or end your hike there.
The Barranco de la Torre is a significant ecological area, known for being a breeding ground for birds such as the Egyptian Vulture and Barbary Partridge, making it a good spot for birdwatching. The gorge also features changing vegetation, appearing greener than other parts of Fuerteventura, with scattered shrubs and trees.
Yes, the route incorporates sections of several official trails. It largely follows the "Barranco de la torre-Caleta de Fuste" path, and as it approaches the coast, it also utilizes parts of the "Paseo maritimo - Seafront promenade" and "Paseo Maritimo".
While the Barranco de la Torre section is more remote, once you reach Caleta de Fuste, you'll find a wide array of amenities, including cafes, restaurants, and shops, perfect for relaxing and refueling after your hike.
Today a little farewell walk in tourist areas. Overhead ✈️ every minute. Not our world. I wish everyone who is also on Fuerteventura and who has viewed my tours and is still staying here more happy holidays 🌅. Tomorrow the cold shock will follow for us after the weather on Fuerteventura showed its warmest side today🥶🙋🏻
Fuerteventura 2023 😎☀️🍷 The day should be beautiful 🤩 😎... the weather report promised 9 hours of sunshine ☀️☀️☀️ This easy hike initially took us along the pretty beach promenade until we later turned onto an easy coastal path. We didn't meet a soul on this very rustic coastal path, it was wonderful...just us and the sea 🌊 the noise had a meditative effect. As we continued, we passed the old lime kilns, (which can be found throughout Fuerteventura) Shortly before "Salinas del Carmen" directly on the coast is the Salt Museum... our destination that we would like to visit. The old salt gardens of Las Salinas were transformed into a beautiful open-air museum with EU funds. After visiting the Salinas, we reached the local fish restaurant “Los Caracolitos” via the village street. We were impressed by the excellent quality of the food. The food was fresh and deliciously prepared. The employees are extremely friendly and attentive. Extremely fair in price. I can recommend it with a clear conscience. 🥗🍷😍
