Pentewan Railway Trail

Highlight • Trail

Between London Apprentice and Pentewan runs the disused Pentewan Railway Line. It is now a flat traffic free trail of around 4.5km in one direction so makes the perfect place to run at a consistent pace.

It also makes a great way to link St Austell with the coast path for a longer run. As it is so flat it is either a great warm up or warm down after a hilly coast run.

Mevagissey Harbour

Highlight • Historical Site

In the narrow streets of Mevagissey you find myriad shops, workshops, galleries, cafes and pubs, as well as many old buildings made of cob and slate. There are plenty of traditional fish and chip shops to try here, too. The picturesque town was once the centre of Cornwall’s pilchard fishery and, even today, still has a small working harbour with a few dozen fishing boats.

Portmellon Beach

Beautiful Cornish fishing port.

Caerhays Castle

Highlight • Castle

My photos don’t do it justice. Lovely beach and cafe (which is probably only open in the summer)

King Harry Ferry

Highlight • Bridge

The King Harry Ferry has been carrying passengers from St Mawes and the Roseland Peninsula with Feock, Truro and Falmouth since 1888. The ferry, which is one of only five chain ferries in England, operates every 20 minutes daily and takes 7 minutes. It is also good for the planet as it carries over 300,000 cars every year, saving around 1.7 million kg of CO2! Tickets for cyclists cost £1 each way. Cowlands Creek

Highlight • Natural

Cowlands Creek feeds into the River Fal. This is a picturesque place by the creek to stop for a picnic and enjoy the view.

The name 'Cowlands' may come from the Cornish word 'Cownan' which means 'steep-sided valley'.

Calenick Creek

Highlight • Viewpoint

As you cycle along the Newham trail, you will be rewarded with views of Calenick Creek. The Calenick Creek feeds into the Truro River, which joins with the River Fal.

This section of trail is relatively flat as it is a disused railway.
