Day of transfer and "contemplative" stop in Assisi...magical and profound...
We flew to Rome early in the morning. We would have liked to have reduced our ecological footprint and travelled by night train like last year. But that wasn't possible because of a construction site somewhere in Italy. So the only alternative was to fly - a pity. From Rome we then took the train to Assisi. From here we want to hike along the Way of St. Francis back to Rome over the next 17 days. Exactly one year ago to the day we temporarily ended our Way of St. Francis here in Assisi. Now we want to continue it. Since we are already reaching Assisi in the afternoon, we want to pay a visit to the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli. It is considered one of the most important churches in Christendom and has a small chapel inside where Francis gathered to pray. But first we are drawn to the tomb of the saint in the Basilica di San Francesco.
