Around Crémieu

This Tour explores the most beautiful sites of the countryside surrounding Crémieu. This small medieval town of character is labeled “Most Beautiful Détours de France” and its surroundings are full of treasures.

Leaving the town, the path passes near the Château de Bienassis, illustrated by the stays of Lamartine. Just after, you join the GR 422 route. This major hiking trail is one of the few historic GR trails. Here you are following in the footsteps of Charles IX and Catherine de Medici during their crossing of the Dauphiné.

At kilometer five, the Chalignieu pond appears. It was recently classified ENS (Sensitive Natural Space). The site is home to many migrating passerines.

In Veyssilieu, you leave the GR 442 route and begin a short but very steep climb which leads to the chapel of Notre-Dame-de-Salette. Your efforts will be rewarded with beautiful views over the Isère plain. The climb continues to the Col du Croupillon, the highest point of this tour at 443 meters above sea level.

The rest of the route passes near the Moras pond. The path that goes around the body of water is superb and offers a beautiful diversity of perspectives on the blue waters of this preserved space.

The end of the route takes part of the GR 422 again and you pass along the way next to the Chapelle-Saint-Maurice de Moirieu before returning to the medieval stones of Crémieu.
