Running

This Tour covers some of the must-see places in the Monts d’Or. This small limestone massif located north of Lyon is well known to runners. It is a real gruyere full of single-tracks.

Starting from the Place de la République in Saint-Cyr-en-Mont-d'Or - where the village market is held every Saturday - you head towards Mont Cindre. It is the first balcony of the Monts d’Or on the Lyon side.

If the beginning of the route still had an urbanized character, from now on you progress exclusively on single tracks with a certain charm. After kilometer five, you arrive at Mount Thou. It is perhaps the most emblematic place in this massif. The view it offers is superb and a 180-degree panorama of the Rhône valley lies before you.

The long descent on the north side leads to the heights of Albigny. After crossing the Poleymieux road, a very steep climb awaits you. This joins the Croix de Rampau at an altitude of 464 meters. This other unmissable place in the Monts d’Or allows you to see the slopes of the Beaujolais mountains, located further north.

You then progress along a balcony to reach the highest point of this route: Mont Verdun. This is home to a military zone that is still active. It is one of the nerve centers of the French Air Force.

The route continues towards Mont Narcel then Mont de La Roche. From there, the capital of the Rhône reveals its contours again. The arrival is felt and the last kilometers in the small streets of Saint-Cyr-en-Mont-d’Or bring you back to urban civilization.

This route is accessible by car or by public transport via bus 22 of the TCL network.
