This trail is generally considered to be of moderate to challenging difficulty. It requires good fitness levels due to significant ascents and descents, including steep downhill sections with steps and continual climbing in parts. It's not typically recommended for beginner hikers.
Hikers can expect a diverse mix of surfaces, including footpaths, country lanes, and tracks. The route transitions between coastal sections, open fields, and woodlands. Specific features include leading through rough pastureland, across a stream that may need to be forded, and through dense woodland areas. Some sections involve earth steps, with over a hundred in one part leading down towards the sea. Parts of the path may also be muddy, especially after rain.
The loop offers magnificent and panoramic coastal views, particularly from higher elevations. You'll encounter timeless villages, serene meadows, ancient woodlands, and valleys. Notable scenic points include views over Watermouth Cove, Samson's Bay, and Broadsands Beach, as well as glimpses of the impressive Little and Great Hangman hills. Key points of interest include Watermouth Harbour, a View of Watermouth Harbour, and Hele Corn Mill & Tea Room.

Beautiful route. Some fields/paths quite overgrown.. Route could be quite muddy in the winter. Recommend a refreshment stop at Sandy Cove Hotel (amazing views & dog friendly) and Storm in a Teacup Cafe at Watermouth Harbour. Stunning views from the coast path. Hele beach a nice stop for a dog swim. Some tough climbs in places. Overall a beautiful route.
