"Everything would be better if we walked more." This quote by Johann Gottfried Seume is immortalized on the Old Milk Hall in the small heath village of Wilsede (Image 13). It certainly had a different meaning during his lifetime, but these words didn't completely leave me in the heath's "peak regions," where I encountered people who seemed to lack the strength of an external oxygen supply or who hadn't undergone any mental coaching for such expeditions beforehand....
With this glorious weather, I "had to" interrupt my journey home for a stroll through the heath. For me, the Lüneburg Heath has its charm even in winter. The landscape is so varied, from dense forests to wide heathlands and hills like the Wilseder Berg, with its viewpoints. It was wonderful; even the foggy drive back couldn't dampen my spirits.
I didn't walk the Steingrund trail from Totengrund. It's supposed to be beautiful, so I'd do it next time.
The heather blooms very, very beautifully in its beautiful landscape. A great tour. You should start very early, because the bear is raging around noon 😉 We were back at the parking lot in time for noon and decided that we would build a north path on our return journey. Kuhbach-Oste was our goal ...
Picture book landscape is the apt term for what is offered on this hike - even without heather blossom. The hike led from the Niderhavebeck car park over the far-reaching views of Wilseder Berg to the picturesque village of Wiselde with its thatched houses. Then we went to the Totengrund with its breathtaking view through forest and heathland back to the starting point. A highlight was certainly the second sighted Heidschnuck herd with the freshly hatched lambs, which literally overwhelmed us. Impressive!
Really nice round trip with lots of variety! 🌸Wilsede - totally romantic village where time stands still. 🐴 There are delicious buckwheat cakes in the milk hall. ☕️🥧🍰
Even in nasty, "unseasonably cold," and rainy weather, the Lüneburg Heath is fun. Wilseder Berg and Totengrund are the adventure playgrounds of my childhood. It's nice that they're still there 55 years later.
