This easy loop generally takes between 1 hour 28 minutes and 2 hours 15 minutes to complete, depending on your pace and how often you stop to enjoy the scenery.
You can typically start this loop from the village of Buis-les-Baronnies, often from Place du Quinconce, where parking is usually available.
Yes, this loop is considered easy to very easy, with a modest elevation gain. It's highly recommended for families and beginners due to its manageable distance and lack of major difficulties.
The route features diverse terrain, including asphalt sections (around 3.26 km), gravel paths (1.01 km), and unpaved sections (455 m). You'll traverse streets, pedestrian paths, and hiking trails.
You'll experience the stunning natural beauty of the Gorges d'Ubrieux, pass through olive groves and apricot orchards, and enjoy panoramic views of landmarks like Mont Ventoux and the Saint-Julien rock. The village of Buis-les-Baronnies itself is also a highlight.
Yes, the trail is generally dog-friendly. However, please keep your dog on a leash, especially when passing through agricultural areas or near wildlife, to respect the local environment and other hikers.
Spring and autumn offer the most pleasant temperatures and vibrant landscapes for this hike. While summer can be hot, the opportunity for Swimming in the Eygues at the Pont d'Ubrieux can be a refreshing bonus.
No, there are no specific permits or entrance fees required to hike this loop or to access the Parc naturel régional des Baronnies provençales. It's freely accessible for hikers.
Yes, sections of this route intersect with other official trails. You'll find yourself on parts of the Tour des Baronnies provençales, Rue des Plates, Chemin du Canal du Moulin, and Promenade Princes de Monaco, among others.
Yes, the Gorges d'Ubrieux are a classified natural site ideal for relaxation by the water, and there's a specific highlight for Swimming in the Eygues at the Pont d'Ubrieux.
Given its easy difficulty, comfortable walking shoes, water, sun protection (hat, sunscreen), and perhaps a snack are generally sufficient. If hiking in summer, consider swimwear for a dip in the Eygues.
It's a cloudy, slightly rainy day and we walk along the Ouveze to the climbing rocks in the Ubrieux Gorge. There we turn back. If we had continued walking, our feet would have gotten wet. There are flowers everywhere and it's still very green here. The olive trees are currently being pruned and there are some ancient specimens to admire.
Today, I chose the right destination! In Malaucène, the rattlesnake rifles were out again, in Mollans there was a huge flea market, and in Buis... wonderful peace and quiet! The Baronnies never cease to enchant me... vast, enormous valleys, but also smaller, and quite deserted ones (lavender grows here). Near Buis, you'll find olive fields... The Ventoux is always in sight here, too - albeit from "behind" 😂 Lilli in a small stream again! 👍 but not for drinking... picking grass was the order of the day 🙈 And again, we had company for a few hundred meters! Black and white 😍
