Although the tour is advertised for mountain bikes by the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena (https://zugspitzarena.com/de/Ehrwald-Um-die-Zugspitze_tour_128235), it is actually a gravel tour.
Nice tour around the Zugspitze, but there are sections where you have to push the bike because of the 16% gradient over a long stretch (or a decent gear reduction, which I didn't have). Great views, definitely do it.
A spontaneous decision today at work shortly before closing time. Tackle the Wetterstein Circuit with the gravel bike today. Said and done. The route is easy to drive up to Ehrwald, but then the Ehrwalder Alm is the most unpleasant part of the whole route. Steep, steep and steep again. If you want to make it easier for yourself, you and your bike can take the cable car 🚠 to the mountain station for €17. A good alternative for those who don't want to torture themselves. Then there is a moderate incline to the saddle with the descent into the Gaistal. From then on you can roll downhill more or less comfortably and enjoy the landscape. From Leutasch there is a wonderful cycle path along the Ache, which takes you almost all the way to Mittenwald. Before that, I stopped at the Gasthof Brücke in Unterkirchen and filled up the calories we had consumed. Highly recommended. Then take the route via Lautersee and Ferchensee and let the tour slowly end.
My conclusion: it works, but if you want it to be easy on your knees, you actually need a real mountain bike translation🤔
