Easy but wonderful excursion from Passso Vezzena - Levico - Lavarone. Keeper of memories of past wars, trenches, forts, lives sacrificed for the resistance.
A beautiful and entertaining hike. At first on a shady forest path, then across meadows and finally on a gravel path to the summit. Now and then we walked short sections next to/away from the usual hiking path because we were more impressed by the nature than the gravel path. The remains of the fortress reflect on the one hand the madness of the First World War with the many deaths and on the other hand the circumstances under which such buildings were built even then. The view makes the climb worthwhile.
Panoramic loop from Passo Vezzena to Spitz Verle
Today we go to the Cimo Vezzena (1900m), first by car at 1400m. The way up is spectacular: a normal road at the beginning, it becomes increasingly narrower and I see myself as a passenger rolling down the mountain on the right. One serpentine follows the next. I feel uneasy. This goes on for seven kilometers. Racing cyclists and motorcycle cliques sometimes come along. When I finally get to the top, I have to take a deep breath. The scenery is fantastic and we start hiking. Good path - pleasant incline...Then the turnoff and really steep up narrow serpentine paths. The view gives you reason to stop more often. Once at the top we explore the fortress. Then finally we go all the way up to the summit cross and we immortalize ourselves in the summit book. The descent is quite steep at the beginning, but becomes flatter. And the journey from the mountain to the valley is also relaxed: less traffic. A great day with a great view😍😍😍....
On Friday we started our first tour to a peak, the Cima Vezzena. On the previous days we had already seen the mountain from below in the Valsugana valley and really wanted to go up there so we could look into the valley and the two lakes from there. However, the mountain was only accessible from the south side; the north side is, if at all, only for mountaineers. So we had to get to an altitude of 1400m by car, the road there was only one lane in parts with 2.50m wide tunnels and endless curves, an experience in itself. The first 2km of the hike were relatively easy, we passed a fort, then the path became steeper, the path zigzagged up through the forest. Then we reached a wide grade that gave us our first glimpses of the Valsugana valley. Unfortunately, despite the best sunshine, it was a bit hazy in the valley, which somewhat spoiled the otherwise magnificent panorama. There is another fortress at the top of Cima Vezzena, it looks like a ruin with square window holes without windows. Our way down first took us towards the Cima Mandriola, which we skipped contrary to our original plan because we simply started too late for that. We chose the longer route down via the wide path to make it a little easier. On the way back we ended up passing the fort again, which was now lit red by the sun. On the pass road down we stopped at one of the parking bays to enjoy the view of the valley with the sunset.
Please DO NOT go to the Restaurante al Verle Passo V. - never experienced such unacceptable, discriminatory behavior in the restaurant industry...
We arrived in Levico and, before reaching Passo Vezzena, we drove along the Menador panoramic road: it is amazing how it climbs up the rock. The plateau that opens up from Passo Vezzena is really very large: it is the Altopiano dei Sette Comuni. From here you can take several quiet routes, including the one we chose up to the Vezzena peak, with the Austro-Hungarian Verle fort. Today, the view was a bit limited by the fog, but the walk is still really worth it.
That felt very, very good. Tiring ascent, but at the summit we were rewarded with a great view.
