I recommend wearing clothing that covers your legs during the summer months for the return section from Tarbatness lighthouse by the Moray Firth shore back to Portmahomack. The grass is long on the shore and the ticks are lively!

Only do this hike when it's dry. The rock formations and colors by the water are appealing. If you like gorse, you'll definitely enjoy it. It grows in abundance. Some of the paths lead right through the water. The section between the lighthouse and Rockfield along the water is very varied. Narrow paths up and down, rocky or soft, everything is there. Only the last one over the small, round stones is annoying; there's much less grip. They slip underfoot.
