This is a moderate hike. It typically takes around 3 hours and 47 minutes to complete the loop, covering a distance of approximately 12.4 kilometers with an elevation gain of about 374 meters. While some sections can be steep, particularly on the ascent to Monte Cimone, it's manageable for those with a reasonable level of fitness.
The terrain varies along the loop. You'll encounter forest roads, well-defined trails, and some steeper sections, especially when approaching the summit of Monte Cimone. Portions of the trail, particularly the Il Respiro degli Alberi Art Trail, are described as forest roads with regular gravel surfaces.
This route offers stunning panoramic views and unique cultural features. You'll enjoy vistas of Lake Caldonazzo, the Brenta Dolomites, and Carè Alto. Highlights include the Il Respiro degli Alberi Art Trail with its contemporary art installations, the Baita Belem Mountain Hut offering a splendid panoramic balcony, and the Monte Cimone Summit and Viewpoint with its breathtaking 360-degree views. You'll also pass the Austro-Hungarian Military Cemetery of Slaghenaufi, a site of historical significance.
Yes, the trail is generally dog-friendly. However, it's always recommended to keep your dog on a leash to protect local wildlife and ensure a pleasant experience for all hikers. Please also remember to clean up after your pet.
Specific parking information for this exact trailhead is not provided, but the trail is located in the Alpe Cimbra region near Lavarone. Typically, trails in this area have designated parking areas near popular access points. We recommend checking local signage upon arrival or using a navigation app to find the closest suitable parking.
No, there are generally no permits required or entrance fees to hike this specific trail or to access the natural areas within the Alpe Cimbra region. It's freely accessible for hikers to enjoy.
The best time to hike this loop is typically from late spring to early autumn (May to October). During these months, the weather is generally pleasant, and the Baita Belem Mountain Hut is usually open, offering a great spot for a break. While winter hiking is possible, be prepared for snow and ice, and check local conditions before you go.
Yes, the Baita Belem Mountain Hut is located along the route at an altitude of 1420m. It serves as an ideal spot for a refreshing break, especially during the summer months when it's open. For accommodation, you would need to look in nearby towns like Lavarone.
Yes, the route intersects with several other paths. Notably, it covers significant sections of the Sentiero della Pace and also includes parts of the European long distance path E5 - Italy. You'll also find it crosses the Sentiero dell'Ancino o del Lanzino and the Sentiero delle Sorgenti – Wooden Animal Sculptures.
The 'Il Respiro degli Alberi' section is described as having forest roads with regular gravel surfaces, which can make it accessible for various users, including those with trekking strollers. However, the overall loop includes steeper and more varied terrain, so consider the full route's difficulty if planning to bring a stroller for the entire hike.
The trail passes near the Austro-Hungarian Military Cemetery of Slaghenaufi, which is an interesting site from World War I. It features informative panels with historical photos and maps, offering a glimpse into the region's past. Part of the ascent also utilizes an ancient military mule track, known as the Panoramic Trek or Peace Trail, which has been restored.
"Altopiano di Lavarone con sentiero Respiro degli Alberi" Trek ring The route leads to the discovery of the path called "Respiro degli Alberi", on the Lavarone plateau. A stretch of wide and easy forest road of over 2 km, where beautiful works of art have been placed, designed to match the title of the path. In particular, we appreciated the texts that explained the works, written by the Authors, and often characterized by a great sense of positivity and humanity. We really liked it a lot. Once the artistic path is finished, you continue to reach the top of Mount Cimone, from which you can enjoy a splendid view. Along the route, at a certain point there is a steep climb for a hundred meters, after which you return to the forest road, and then take the path on the left towards the top. From here the return begins, first on a path and then on a forest road, visiting the Austro-Hungarian Cemetery of the Great War: over 700 graves, many of unknown people, in the cold earth for over a century... a warning that should make us reflect. In a few minutes we return to the starting point. The route is almost always in the woods, among beech, larches and firs, with glimpses of the distant Brenta group and Lake Caldonazzo. Thanks to @Flavio 🥾🚲 from whom we took inspiration Have a good walk.
Today's hike is one of the best we've done so far! It was simply wonderful! First, the relaxed start along the "Breath of the Trees" theme trail 🌳, followed by a slight challenge with the short but steep climb to Monte Cimone. From there, we had magnificent views in all directions (we discovered the SP133 panoramic road to Caldonazzo, which we later used to return) and our lunch break. The descent was very easy and led along beautiful forest paths, breathtaking viewpoints, and a varied route on the south side of the mountain, through idyllic villages. We definitely recommend this wonderful hike!
