Like almost everything on the island of Favignana, it starts from the port. This is where the heart of the island beats. Arriving there, notice on the right the former Florio fishing establishment, one of the largest tuna traps in Europe: it is believed that here the technique of preserving tuna in oil after boiling and canning.

Once you've rented your bike in the port area, head south. Almost completely flat, today's ride lets you discover the eastern area of Favignana, starting with the beautiful Punta Longa trail. As you ride along the coast, you won't struggle to notice a succession of small beaches where it will be really difficult not to stop. After six kilometres, the Perciata cave is particularly fascinating, but nothing prevents you from exploring some beaches well before that.

One of the most famous of the island, Cala Azzurra, just before Punta Marsala, is often overrun by tourists: continue along the east coast, where there are several tuff quarries. The calcarenite present on the island of Favignana has a typical yellowish colour. You are about to reach two of the most beautiful beaches in Italy: Bue Marino and Cala Rossa. Here it is worth stopping for a nice swim in the crystal clear waters.

There is no hurry to return to the port: most of the bike rentals on the island offer an inexpensive daily rate. If Cala San Nicola is an excellent last beach for taking a dip, Villa Florio and its Art Nouveau style will welcome you in the center of the village. Here I recommend a tuna kebab or a fried octopus sandwich, both delicacies of the area.

The splendid lighthouse of Punta Marsala, in the south-east of Favignana, is very suggestive but is in a state of wear and tear and neglect. It is of nineteenth-century origin and is currently owned by the Navy, which has been trying to sell it to private individuals for years.
