This route was planned by komoot.
After a day of traveling, we have now arrived in the Catalan part of the Pyrenees. And we immediately realized that we could forget about my nice planning of our tours, because although the starting points are in parking lots, they cannot be reached by car in high season, but only with a corresponding driving service. But this service is hardly usable for us, as it is hardly possible in terms of time. So today an improvised tour of the Parc Nacional Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici. Before I can say it properly, I walked the tour blindfolded twice 😉🤷. But the improvisation was well worth it, because the tour was very easy to walk, offered beautiful views and great insights into the flora and insect world. The butterflies in particular are easy "prey" here and the thyme smells very intense 🥰. The only thing I missed in the heat was a place to stop for a break so I could treat myself to a nice glass of lukewarm milk 😉. Best wishes and a lovely evening to all🙋♀️🙋♂️
We drive from Espot to the national park in off-road vehicles. First we walk along the Estany de Sant Maurici. At the Cascada de Ratera waterfall we treat ourselves to a "shower". Completely soaked, we continue to the Estany de Ratera mountain lake. The landscape becomes more and more idyllic. At the Mirador de l'Estany a magnificent view over the lake. Here we rest. It continues over a boulder field, overgrown with beautiful flowers. Refreshment is available at Refugi Ernest Mallafre. With the descent along the Riu Escrita we take our time, watch butterflies. And suddenly there is a deer on our path and quickly takes off. The paths in the national park are all well developed and still natural. 👍
The start and finish points are still different today. We shortened the way back and used a nJeep transport. Descending on the partially scree slope over the almost 400 hm was challenging anyway. Since there is no rest stop on this route, you have to bring your own snack. Drinks can be filled up about halfway. The circumnavigation of the lake also includes steep climbs and, after the climbs, enables a beautiful view of the lake that is then below.
