This relaxed, cross-border tour of the lake, which starts in Nauders, is also perfect for a family outing. The initial ride to the unique Reschensee in South Tyrol runs on the paved bike path Via Claudia. It goes slightly uphill to the Reschenpass, where you cross the Italian border. A little later you reach the shore of the reservoir, which was built after the Second World War. A whole village had to make way for the water, only the bell tower built in the 14th century remained standing as a reminder and has protruded from the lake ever since.

At the village of Reschen, switch to the flat, gravel path that runs along the eastern shore of the lake. There are many resting and resting places along the way as well as places to stop for refreshments. With changing views of the popular body of water, you drive to Graun, where the church tower of Alt-Graun stands in the water - a truly fascinating sight.

After about 15 kilometers you cross the dam of Lake Reschen and follow the now paved bike path back to Reschen. The Via Claudia takes you back to Nauders via the Reschen Pass.

For us it was a long-awaited goal of our Alpine crossing. You know what you've achieved, because after that it'll go downhill as a reward !!!

Bell Tower of Curon in Lake Resia

Highlight • Monument

The church tower of the village of Alt-Graun, which sunk when the lake was dammed, is an impressive photo motif at any time of the year.

Resia Lake Dam

Highlight • Monument

With a bit of luck, you can get a wonderful view from the dam wall, beyond St. Valentin and Lake Haider, to "King Ortler" in Vinschgau - South Tyrol's highest mountain. 🤩

St. Martin Chapel

Highlight • Religious Site

Martin of Tours, Latin Martinus (* around 316/317 in Savaria, Roman province of Pannonia prima, today Szombathely, Hungary; † November 8, 397 in Candes near Tours in today's France), was the founder of Western monasticism and the third bishop of Tours. In the tradition of the Catholic Church, he is one of the best-known saints, although he was never canonized. He is the first who was granted this dignity not as a martyr but as a confessor. He is also venerated as a saint in the Orthodox, Anglican and Evangelical Churches.

There are still about 9 km to go. The battery was empty and it was no longer possible to record the remaining distance.

It's so cold right now in the Upper Venosta Valley. Therefore, unfortunately, we cannot aim as high as we would like. The tour to the high plateau with a wonderful view of Lake Reschen was part of our alternative plan and was definitely worth it.
The anti-tank traps, which point to former borders and acts of war, are a bit …

What a great, highlight-rich tour on Lake Reschen. 🥰

Started directly from the hotel in the direction of Nauders on the bike path.

In Nauders the state border is passed before it goes uphill for a long time via an S0 forest path.

The second tour at Lake Reschen...the weather was fantastic, so the route was extended a bit.
Some of the trails here on Komot are rated S1, but that's not necessarily true! For me as a beginner...it was a bit difficult. But it was fun! Otherwise, a tour with great views to enjoy 😊
