Natuurmonumenten welcomes you to beautiful Zeepeduinen and Slot Haamstede, located near Burg-Haamstede. The walk starts at Slot Haamstede, located near Burg-Haamstede. This impressive historic castle dates back to the Middle Ages. The castle has a rich history and still exudes the majestic grandeur of yesteryear. The aging castle was built in the 13th century and served as a defensive structure. It provided protection to the rulers of the area and acted as a strategic stronghold in times of conflict. Over the centuries, the castle has had several owners, including noble families who have left their mark on the history of the castle. Today, as a visitor you can enjoy the beautiful architecture and the charming gardens that surround the castle. Natuurmonumenten is responsible for the preservation and restoration of Slot Haamstede. The castle now serves as a cultural heritage and offers a glimpse into the region's past. The Zeepeduinen are known for their unique flora and fauna, making them a favorite destination for nature lovers and hikers. Walking through the Zeepeduinen you will find colorful flowers and fragrant plants. The diversity of plant species is impressive, ranging from rare orchids to the distinctive sea buckthorn bushes. It is a paradise for insects, butterflies and birds, so don't forget to bring your binoculars to observe all the wonderful bird life. The dunes themselves form a dynamic landscape, shaped by the wind and tides. It is a perfect place to unwind, let go of your mind and enjoy the serenity of nature. In Zeepeduinen you will also find a few small ponds, in which you can spot often collected water birds. Natuurmonumenten is committed to the preservation and protection of the Zeepeduinen. By creating hiking trails and informing visitors about the vulnerability of the area, a solution is offered between preserving nature and stimulating sustainable tourism. Enjoy the peace and serenity that the Zeepeduinen have to offer. Practical Paid parking is available at the Kriekemeet car park in Burg-Haamstede. The route starts and ends at Slot Haamstede, ring 2, 4328 AE Follow the red posts. We found the start a bit clumsy. After the entrance to Slot Haamstede, turn left just behind the gate. You follow this narrow path and you will automatically encounter the red posts. On the website of Natuurmomenten you will find a description of what you will encounter along the way. Interesting! This route is also great fun for children who don't mind sand ;-). The route also contains interesting bunkers.

Once again we were able to enjoy the beautiful landscape near Burgh-Haamstede in the most beautiful November weather. The walk through the dunes is very varied, beautiful and interesting. In many places you can still find the remains of bunkers from World War II. We met wild horses and saw many deer tracks. But the animals preferred to hide from us 😉 Unfortunately, dogs are only allowed to walk this path on a leash. But ours still had fun 👍🏻
