Mullacor Peak

Highlight • Summit

Mullacor at 657 metres (2,155 ft) is situated in the southern sector of the Wicklow Mountains range, and forms a broad horseshoe around the Upper Lake of the Glendalough valley. Nearby is Lugduff at 652 metres (2,139 ft). Both are Irish Hewitts and marked by small cairns.

Highlight • Viewpoint

The tour of the Spinc ridge and the White Route takes you up and around the spectacular Glendalough Valley. The tough climb is rewarded with breathtaking views of the Valley and the surrounding Wicklow mountains.

The trail goes up by Poulanass Waterfall before joining the amazing boardwalk and wooden steps leading to the spectacular viewing point overlooking the Upper Lake. On the other side of the valley you decent down a rocky trail to the deserted Miners Village where a path takes you back into Glendalough.

Glendalough Caher (Ring Fort) at Upper Lake

Highlight • Historical Site

The ring fort, also called "Caher", located between Upper and Lower Lake, has a diameter of around 20 meters. It is not possible to determine exactly when it was built. In its immediate vicinity there are several stone crosses that probably marked the stations of a pilgrimage.

Glendalough Monastic Site and Round Tower

In the valley of the two lakes in Wicklow Mountain National Park you will find the famous monastery settlement Glendalough in addition to this special natural mixture of lakes, mountains and the unique green of the Irish forest landscape.

Sure, pictures of the monastery settlement in the Wicklow Mountains can be found in every travel guide. But the atmosphere between the centuries-old remains of the complex of St. Kevins charges the air. It almost vibrates around you due to the long and spiritual history you encounter here. For me one of the most impressive places in Ireland - a hike through the valley is also worthwhile.

Important: The monastery is a very popular tourist destination. If possible, do not come here during the travel weddings and of course always put one foot in front of the other with a view to preserving the historical buildings: glendalough.ie.
