The interesting moor and heath landscape of the High Fens is original, untouched and romantic: in spring with light pink spots of cranberry and rosemary heather, in early summer with white cotton grass flakes, in late summer and autumn with purple heather, after the first frost with orange moor grass and in winter with bizarre silhouettes of gnarled moor birch trees. But there is also a lot to discover outside the raised moor area.
You start at the Roetgen hiking station, which is located directly on the Vennbahn cycle path. This takes you eastwards along the German-Belgian border, climbing steadily. After crossing the Hoscheiter Venn, you reach Lammersdorf, where a visit to the farmer's museum is recommended. You then immerse yourself in the High Fens, which you can explore even more intensively on foot on numerous wooden paths.
After 23 kilometers, Haus Ternell with the adjacent Venn and Forest Museum invites you to stop. Then a cooling descent along the Getzbach down to the Weser Dam awaits you. There is a cozy restaurant with a viewing terrace and playground at the impressive dam. The fairytale-like and densely overgrown valley of the Weser is the highlight on the last section back to the starting point near Roetgen.

Absolutely recommendable tour. Almost exclusively on paved bike and service paths. Varied landscape and some highlights. Unfortunately, Ternell is currently closed, but you could also sit by the Weser reservoir. It also fit in perfectly that today was potato fritter day in Roetgen.😁
Very nice tour, did the same tour a year ago because it was so nice 👍🙂
Nice tour through the Venn. Recommended from spring to autumn.
Today, in the rain, I went on a lovely bike ride. From Roetgen to Lammersdorf, through the Paustenbacher Venn, the Imgenbroicher Venn, the Brackvenn, and along the Getzbach stream to the Weser Dam. Along the way, I stopped off at the wonderful Ternell Forester's House. A dream come true!!! There's not much water in the dam.
A pleasant warm-up ride on this beautiful, almost spring-like day. The sun is shining brightly, but it's cool and the wind is occasionally biting. We'll choose Ovelo loop no. 2. As a reminder, the ten Ovelo loops use the numbered junctions. They are available on the Ostbelgien.be website. We start at Lake Eupen and begin climbing through the woods towards Petergensfeld, taking the Vennbahn railway through Roetgen. We'll make a short stop at the old Lammersdorf train station before continuing towards Konzen. We'll turn off before reaching it, finding ourselves in the heart of the High Fens before descending towards Lake Eupen, following the Getzbach stream. A very nice loop, very easy and without any difficulty, showcasing the many facets of our splendid High Fens. A great way to get back on track
It was a nice 🚴 tour of about 41 km, only forest, no cars 👍, could only save part of it because Vodafone had a problem which others 🚴 also confirmed 🤷
