There is an alternative route that allows you to always tackle four passes, always starting from Corvara. This route is much more challenging than the classic tour of the four passes. The mileage, in fact, is close to 100 kilometers and the height difference exceeds 3,000 metres.

If you feel in excellent physical condition, however, this round will fill you with satisfaction. The first climb of the day is the Valparola pass: the slopes are often demanding, especially in the final part of the climb. At the top you can admire the small Valparola lake. A long descent begins from the pass: some of the bloodiest battles of the Great War were fought in this area.
At Rocca Pietore you complete the descent and start climbing the Fedaia pass. Under normal conditions, you would find two roads that connect Rocca Pietore to the village of Malga Ciapela: the road that passes through the Serrai di Sottoguda canyon has, however, been closed for five years, due to the damage caused by the Vaia storm.

Malga Ciapela is also the gateway to the most difficult part of the day: the five kilometers that take you to the Fedaia pass have a gradient well over 10%, with maximum gradients exceeding 15%. The Fedaia pass welcomes you with the homonymous refuge and lake and, above all, with impressive views of the Marmolada.

From the pass go down to Canazei. Another not easy climb begins from this beautiful Trentino village, which takes you up to the Sella pass. In fact, this climb does not boast the steep slopes of the Fedaia pass, but it is very constant. At the summit, the views of the Sassolungo and the Sella will compensate for the effort.

All you need is the Gardena pass. Your legs are most likely tired: the climb that leads to the last pass of the day is, however, very pedalable. At the top you can admire both the Sella and Cir groups. Finally, after all these efforts, you can face the descent to Corvara: you have happily completed the alternative tour of the four passes!

When @dacom suggests a Maratona preparatory lap, it's hard to turn it down 🤠🤪😄 Perfect group with Jakob Seevaldt and Nils 👍🍻
I'm curious to see how @Hanky 🍁 characterizes the Passo di Fedaia 🤔 Because it's much worse than the Giau 😳😄
