Embark on an undulating loop, weaving through vibrant heathland, historic villages and the serene marshes of the Arun Valley.

Starting in Amberley, you'll pass through the tiny hamlets of Houghton and West Burton, then pedal past the scenic expanse of Sutton Common's sandy heathland.

Head towards the attractive town of Petworth, where you'll discover cosy cafes, welcoming pubs, and a small supermarket. It's a bustling little town with narrow streets and an interesting mix of architecture. It’s also home to Petworth House, a 17th-century Grade I listed country house managed by the National Trust.

Tracing the South Downs National Park boundary, you'll cycle through the village of Kirdford, home to the well-regarded Grade II-listed Half Moon pub.

Prepare for a challenging ascent over Bedham Hill, where your efforts are rewarded with breathtaking panoramas of the South Downs ridge.

Descend into Fittleworth, passing under the wooden 'Millennium Arch,' and conclude your journey back to Amberley via Waltham Brooks Nature Reserve. Don't miss the chance to pause at Greatham Bridge, an impressive stone structure dating back to the 13th century.

The loop commences and concludes at Amberley station, offering convenient half-hourly trains to London Victoria, East Croydon and Bognor Regis. Additionally, there’s a bike hire centre near the station, by the banks of the River Arun. Free parking is available year-round at the station's 24-hour car park.
