This route was planned by komoot.
Pedavena, climb to the Passo Croce D'Aune, the track made me climb on a path uneven and dirty from vegetation to cut some hairpin bends but done uphill I did not find the sense since I had to push the bike, I continued at the pass and then began the climb on the mule track to get to the Rif. Dal piaz 1993 mt. I then continued to the Vette Grandi pass to get with 100 m of altitude difference to the Cima Vetta Grande obviously on foot 😉. Back down the mule track, from there I took a forest road up and down that took me to the entrance of a nice singletrek, to then arrive again in Pedavena where the beer break 🍺 is a must 😉
Tour for expert cyclists with MTBs. This tour is particularly treacherous and therefore we must pay maximum attention, not only when we descend on the way back, but also when going uphill, especially if we are riding an E-bike: the restart "clicks" (especially if we are at maximum speed of assistance), combined with the road surface of the military road, which is particularly bumpy and stony, can cause us to lose control of the vehicle with unfortunate falls into the valley!! If you suffer from vertigo, controlling your bike becomes very challenging, because the road is very exposed and without protection. The tour starts from the car park in the large square of the Pedavena Brewery (where I leave my car). I head towards the historic center of Pedavena. Then I turn right to Norcen, located at the top of a hill. At this point the GPS track becomes indispensable for the various deviations. On the plateau (900m) there is the Pian d'Avena picnic area (there is a "calchera" and a Park info-point) managed by the Pedavena Proloco, next to the asphalt road towards the pass. Here there is in particular a small fountain and a shelter with tables and benches, and on a support beam there is a free 24-hour power socket, useful for recharging the e-bike. I return to the main road that leads to Croce d'Aune and after a few bends I take the military road (I fill up at the fountain, on our left). Here the dirt road begins and at the crossroads I take a left uphill onto an unmarked dirt track which I follow ignoring the path indicated "Dal Piaz" which climbs to the left shortly after (exclusively for hikers on foot). Initially we are in the woods. The military road continues offering increasingly panoramic views towards the Vette Grandi and Mount Pavione and soon we are in sight of the Dal Piaz refuge above, from which the most daring and exposed sections separate us, with a series of breathtaking hairpin bends. It is a must to go up to the Vette Grandi pass, just above the refuge, to enjoy the view of the "Busa delle Vette". At the refuge they have excellent menus. I recommend the pizza!. The return, as I was saying, is all downhill, but as often happens the speed increases and with it the danger, so it's better to wear out the brake pads and stay on the part of the road uphill (watch out for anyone going uphill) and go home! !! Bring a good supply of water.
This tour is particularly demanding, to be done exclusively with a MTB (I did it with an E-MTB). Tour for expert cyclists who must pay maximum attention, not only when descending on the way back, but also when going uphill, especially if we are riding an E-bike: the restart "clicks" (especially if we are at maximum assistance regime) , combined with the rather bumpy military road, can cause us to lose control of the vehicle with unfortunate falls into the valley!! In this regard, if you suffer from vertigo, I advise you not to do this route in any case, because it is very exposed and without protection, great caution is needed both uphill and downhill. It is a must to go up to the Vette Grandi pass, just above the refuge, to enjoy the view of the "Busa delle Vette". Pay attention to hikers on foot, who have the right of way. It is advisable to contact the Park info-point in advance regarding the practicability of the road which may be subject to interruptions due to meteorological phenomena.
The ring starts from the beautiful Lamen Valley, north of Pedavena. You reach the road that climbs from the Croce d'Aune pass for a series of links between dirt roads, challenging ramps and equally difficult single tracks. It goes for a few meters in the most critical points. Once you reach the road that goes up to the refuge from Piaz, follow it to the refuge itself and then, just above it, to reach the Passo delle Vette Grandi at almost 2000m. The road is always wide but in many places with a fairly bumpy bottom, with stones and rocks. So the fatigue is felt more. Once you reach the refuge, after the usual break, you resume the way back, paying a little attention to both the bottom and the pedestrians, if you go there on peak days. Arriving at junction 801, take it and here the expert section begins. So, those who prefer not to face it, just have to proceed on the ascent route. Trail 801 is for experienced people with the appropriate equipment (knee pads and full-face helmet highly recommended). There are some easier sections, but many sections where due experience is required. You go down until you cross the road, then again immediately down to the right for the continuation. There would also be the last piece (the third) but we didn't do it due to exhaustion of strength ... Then you return to the starting point following the same track as the outward journey. Really first-rate views and landscapes. If you don't want to do the stretch from the Lamen Valley, then the overall difficulty changes and without even the downhill path, it becomes medium. So there is something for everyone.
Spectacular tour! 10km constant climb 1000mt D + uneven ground but all pedalable, overhangs and meadows, dolomites and fir trees as far as the eye can see in the Natural Park of the Belluno Dolomites 😊. Arrival in 2000 at the Rifugio del Piaz, also the end of the Alta Via # 2, next summer Grand Tour
Ascent and descent via the military road. Spectacular the last 4 km, albeit a bit more demanding to pedal.
Spectacular military road that climbs to the Dal Piaz refuge from the Croce d'Aune pass. Read the full story: https://www.lifeintravel.it/rifugio-dal-piaz-in-bici-spettacolare-salita-nelle-vette-feltrine.html
