The path starts from Caprile Inferiore, a few kilometers north of Averara. This locality is located at the entrance to the Val Mora along the ancient Via Mercatorum which connected Bergamo with Valtellina.

In the past, Caprile Inferiore must have had the role of a military garrison: the structure of the ancient stone portal, still preserved today, indicates that the village could once have been easily isolated from the outside.

Go up the Val Mora and, continuing on a moderate slope at first, then more steeply, you reach Lake Valmora, an artificial reservoir with a trapezoidal shape, born in 1953 after the damming of the Brembo through the construction of a dam.

Skirting the lake, you reach the large basin under Passo San Marco and, following the carriage road and sections of via Priula, you soon arrive at the Passo San Marco 2000 refuge.

The Passo San Marco 2000 refuge is located between Val Brembana and Valtellina. From here you can admire an exceptional view of the Rhaetian Alps, the Orobie mountains and the surrounding valleys. The refuge is an important starting point for excursions with different levels of difficulty.

The kitchen of the refuge offers its customers typical specialties of the Bergamo and Valtellinese tradition such as pizzoccheri, casoncelli, polenta taragna with game, renowned local cheeses such as Bitto and Casera and rigorously homemade desserts.

Here you can find all the contacts and useful information on the refuge: https://rifugiopassosanmarco2000.it/

Lake Valmora is an artificial reservoir, with a trapezoidal shape, generated with the damming of the Brembo di Averara, its main tributary, by means of a dam built in 1953.
It can be reached by going down a dirt road closed to traffic, which branches off on the left from provincial 9 at the tenth bend, just before the San Marco 2000 Refuge, or starting from Caprile and walking up Valmora along the old Alta Via route. The Passo San Marco 2000 refuge is located approximately one kilometer from the pass of the same name at 1,850 meters above sea level.

The proximity to the pass that connects Val Brembana and Valtellina places it in a strategic position both for trips and excursions and for relaxation.

Furthermore, from this refuge the view of the Rhaetian Alps, Orobie Alps and surrounding valleys is truly exceptional.

Today I must say a great tour. I basically went and came back along the same road, even though I arrived at the refuge. The refugee manager had recommended another panoramic route to me, I didn't do it, not for lack of confidence, but only because I was alone. , that's the only reason
