Hiking

From the Obersasbach church square, this nearly ten-kilometer loop takes you over the Sulzbächel stream to the Erlenbad Franciscan Monastery. Narrow paths lead you along the Aubächle stream to the AugenBlick Nature Park—with breathtaking views across the Rhine plain to the Vosges Mountains.

The trail climbs steeply to Presteneck, partly over steps and winding paths. Shortly before reaching the highest point, a contemplative rest at the Fatima Grotto is worthwhile. The sisters of the Erlenbad Monastery also regularly hiked here. At the Zink guesthouse, a schnapps fountain with chilled drinks and a public restroom await you. Time for a break.

You continue over the Murberg mountain through the Sasbachwalden vineyards, past the Alde-Gott shrine, and back to the starting point. Enjoy wonderful views over the vineyards all the way to France along the way. Pack some provisions; there are several scenic views along the route.

Erlenbad Convent

Highlight • Religious Site

The monastery Erlenbad in Sasbach / Obersasbach is on the edge of the Black Forest. It was built in 1924-1926, at a time when the community of Franciscan women already had a very eventful history behind them.
During the Second World War the mother house Erlenbad was seized u.a. for 300 men of a construction company, for the accommodation of about 1000 ethnic German resettlers. The monastic community remained again only the Marienheim. From 1927 to 1956 the convent school was housed in the mother house.
Today, many of the once young, highly motivated nuns have returned to the Erlenbad, where they spend their last phase of life, after a fulfilled life on their wards. Currently there are about 110 sisters in the mother house. It is also the seat of provincial government and provincial government.

The view over the vineyards into the Rhine Valley is beautiful in every season. The play of colors is of course particularly impressive in autumn, when the vines shine in a wide variety of yellow and orange tones.

See second photo for description. Very nice and varied tour!

Today I was really thinking about whether I should do a bike tour or run. But the decision then fell on hiking, because I had saved the momentary lap of mountain goat Doris. The weather was initially very muggy and warm due to the cloudy sky. At least I'm not up the steep slope in the blazing sun. You should make sure that you have sturdy shoes, even if some sections are a bit fixed. It is a very scenic tour. Even the Strasbourg Minster could be seen well. Only the Vosges were a bit blurry from the hazy view. The way was well signposted. But you shouldn't always pay attention to the yellow diamond. When I looked at the Hotel Talmühle in Sasbachwalden, I couldn't find the signpost. But the yellow diamond. Suddenly I was on the pilgrimage and schnapps trail. 😅 So back, and lo and behold, hidden in the bushes is the right signpost. 2x I then somehow took a shortcut because the yellow diamond did it to me today. 🤣

A great and varied tour, especially at the Pension Zink. We took a break there. How nicely everything is prepared when a hiker wants to stop. I chose a lemon cake from the glass.😋

Today, to get to know each other, hiked the AugenBlick Runde which is recommended by the Tourist Information Obersasbach. The tour is varied through forest and vineyards with many fantastic views up to the Strasbourg cathedral. The route also leads over the Schnapsbrenner Loop 😇🤪. There are various brandies chilled in the fountain, which you can try for € 1. 😉 👍. I found them very interesting.

🌞Today, two 👀👁AugenBlickRunde👁👀 were on the agenda: Obersasbach and Seebach. So, the 🚗trip first went to Sasbach-Obersasbach for the 🌄👁AugenBlickRunde Obersasbach Lauf. In a 🌄scenic setting on the western slope of the Hornisgrinde (1164 m), the highest peak in the Northern Black Forest, the three communities of Lauf, Sasbachwalden, and Sasbach-Obersasbach lie in the Black Forest National Park region. The unique location between the Rhine plain and the Black Forest High Road offers unforgettable 🥾hiking and 🍒🍇nature experiences. Today I met a hiking friend on the way to the starting point again, who was actually on her way to get some spring water.😊 She decided to accompany me on the hike at short notice, so it was an entertaining round with constantly new views and vistas all the way to Strasbourg Cathedral. It was lovely.☺️

Thank you Tobi B. for this beautiful tour inspiration.

There are even more 'eye views' in the Black Forest Nature Park at https://www.naturpark-augenblicke.de/. We also recommend the gourmet paths, https://www.schwarzwald-tourismus.info/erleben/wandern/geniesserpfade.
