West Beach Local Nature Reserve

Highlight • Natural

West Beach Local Nature Reserve is a pretty spot situated west of the River Arun in Littlehampton. It provides a much quieter area to walk in compared to the main beach in town and allows you the opportunity to stroll through a variety of beautiful habitats including sand dunes, vegetated shingle, sand flats and a small patch of saltmarsh.

Trail Reviews

January 24, 2026, Climping Beach & West Beach Local Nature Reserve loop

Really enjoyed this walk. The bits on the beach were 'bracing'. It was a perfect sunny but windy day. I saw two Turnstones on Climping Beach and then an Egret beside the River Arun. It was very muddy but fun and lunch in The Black Horse Climping was lovely.

Lots of the paths by the nature reserve were flooded. So we had to detour across fields. It's probably best to avoid in the winter months when In flood, unless you know the area.
