One of the most beautiful hiking trails in the Swabian Alb and the perfect tour with the €9 ticket. 🤩😅🤩
Highlights strung together like a string of pearls: The Gustav Ströhmfeld Trail is considered one of the most beautiful hiking trails in the Swabian Alb – and has been since 1940! But who is the man after whom a hiking trail is even named? Gustav Ströhmfeld was a hiking pioneer, the "Chief Trail Master" of the Swabian Alb Association. We owe the foundation for the hiking trail network that still exists today to him. It's no wonder, then, that his "Ehrenweg" (Path of Honor) is not to be underestimated and is exceptional both in terms of its route (many paths along the ridge!) and in terms of its sights, natural beauty, and views. Tip: The buses between Neuffen and Metzingen don't run very frequently. We parked our car at the train station in Metzingen and took bus line 199 to Neuffen. From there, we hiked back. This way, it's easier to time your route and avoid annoying waits after your hike.
We actually wanted to hike the last stage of the Murgleiter today, but the weather forecast was just too bad and so I pulled this hike out of my sleeve 😁 So we headed east towards the Swabian Alb. There it was only 40% rain and in the afternoon even sun. Nevertheless, we were prepared for rain and set off in overcast and wet and cold weather. The first few kilometers were still very close to the city, but when we went into the forest and later up the hills, it got really nice! The paths became narrower and the view in some places towards the end of the tour was really fantastic (see main picture)! Since we were well on time, we were able to stop off at Hohenneuffen Castle and the timing was perfect for the constellation of cloud cover and setting sun 😍 Then it was 2km downhill to the bus stop and back to the start. All in all a very nice tour, which we still enjoyed very much thanks to the mixed weather.
For me, it simply has to be done once a year. The trail has so much to offer! Florian and Jusi with challenging climbs and, as a reward, magnificent views. Long, rooty paths always along the edge of the Alb. Soft, springy forest floor. And the forest smells so good right now! It's like summer 🌞😃🌻🌲🌳 Then there are the orchards, especially delicious today 😋 And not to forget the vineyards, with interesting information panels about wine and winemaking. And one of the largest castles in southern Germany, the Hohen Neuffen! Except for the climbs, the rest of the trail today was through a pleasantly cool forest. A perfect day. Getting there by public transport worked out great; it took me just under an hour from Geislingen to Metzingen. The return journey from Neuffen is every half hour by train. It wasn't a problem at all today! Sank you for drawing with Deutsche Bahn!!
I've had a really nice tour with motivated fellow hikers. Neither the fog nor the rain showers could stop us from walking the entire Gustav Strömfeld Trail from Metzingen to Neuffen. We had to tackle a few tough climbs and descents on mud and slippery stones. Highlights were: 📍 the Metzinger vineyard 📍 the Floriansberg 📍 the Jusi 📍 Hörnle & Sattelbogen 📍 Schillingskreuz 📍 Karlslinde 📍 Kienbein 📍Karlslinde 📍 Brille lookout point 👓 📍 Hohenneuffen Castle It was great. Thank you all for the lovely day🤗 With us were: @Martin1966 @Ömchen & Öpchen 🍀 @KISS with Flip🐕 @Christof 🏔🚶🏽♂️🐕🚲 @Rudolf⛰️🦅 @Markus And our special guests🥰 @Daniela E. & Wilfried @Petra mit Teddy 🧸 🚴🏼♀️ 🥾 with Teddy🐕 @Armin F 72 🌲🥾🌳 @Tine Ti @Sandy with Zoya🐕
After hiking all the circular trails around the Gustav Ströhmfeld Trail, today I hiked the entire trail in the opposite direction from the description, from Neuffen to Metzingen. I parked at the free parking lot near the train station in Metzingen and continued by bus to Neuffen. A journey through the history of the landscape - hiking on the Gustav Ströhmfeld Trail. The "Gustav Ströhmfeld Trail," named after the Swabian Alb Association's first "Honorary Trail Master," Gustav Ströhmfeld, was opened in 1940. This trail is considered one of the most beautiful in the Central Swabian Alb. Everything a hiker's heart desires!! A scenic climb through the vineyards of Metzingen. Lots of orchards and steep rocky paths to the Florian and Jusi viewing mountains. Beautiful walk through the forest with new, great viewpoints all the time. The Hohenneuffen ruins are also impressive. There are also castle tours there and on Sundays and public holidays there are flight demonstrations with birds of prey. Metzingen is easy to reach by train and the return journey from Neuffen also went well! Today it wasn't quite as sunny, but it stayed dry and the temperatures were ideal for hiking. A perfect day 😃😃
