Running
Together, the neighbouring sites of Petts Wood and Hawkwood form a 338-acre (137 ha) area of woodland and farmland fewer than 13 miles (20.9 km) from central London. This is a peaceful escape from the city, and home to many different species of bird, butterfly, amphibian and plant life. The Hawkwood Estate is farmed sympathetically to maintain its rural character.
The running here follows tranquil woodland trails, passing wildlife-rich ponds and memorials. Our Tour is a relaxed 4.1 miles (6.6 km) with only 164 ft (50 m) of ascent. It initially follows the waymarked London Loop from the station and through Petts Wood. Emerging from the trees you’ll cross open farmland at the Hawkwood Estate, passing a couple of ponds and crossing the Kyb Brook before returning to Petts Wood Station.
You can extend your run by including a loop of Jubilee Country Park, which you’ll pass at the start and end of the Tour. Alternatively, continue on the London Loop, a 150-mile (241 km) long distance trail around Greater London set up by Transport for London.
If you’re local, Petts Wood Runners meet regularly and welcome runners of all levels.
The Tour begins at Petts Wood train station, less than 40 minutes from Charing Cross.
