Punta Almana is one of the most popular peaks on the ridge that runs between Lake Iseo and the Trompia Valley. If there is no snow, this peak can also be reached in winter, and on clear days it offers spectacular views. In the summer a night torchlight procession takes…

This route was planned by komoot.
Punta Almana, with its 1391 meters of height, separates Lake Iseo from Val Trompia. The easiest point to reach the summit is from Portole, a hamlet of Sale Marasino. The view is lost towards Monte Isola with Mount Brozone behind it. In the middle distance you can admire Mount Guglielmo and Corna Trentapassi. An excursion that makes the landscape its strong point.
Strava altitude difference 843 m. We start from Portole and clockwise we make this short trip (tyrant time) to the north 2cm. of snow at times slippery, arrived at ☀️ the wind reaches us and will accompany us to the cross of Pezzolo. Along a path with little snow and leaves we return to the car.
An 830-meter elevation gain in just over 8 km of length makes it clear that this loop offers no respite, neither uphill nor downhill; this is evident from the elevation profile. Starting from the highest point reachable by car, from Portole. From here, a long and steady climb on concrete up to Forcella di Sale. Then begins the most technical section of the route, on a narrow trail, with a few dozen meters of via ferrata (Filippo Benedetti equipped trail) to protect against exposure, up to Punta Cabrera; it is intended for experienced hikers. As an alternative to this trail from Forcella di Sale, there is a less difficult alternative trail beyond the watershed. Then, for me, follows the most beautiful section, a long ridge trail, free of tall vegetation, with a constant view of Lake Iseo on one side and the smaller valleys of Val Trompia on the other. Halfway up, you reach the highest point of the tour, Punta Almana at 1,390 meters, a peak clearly visible even from a distance with its imposing cross. Finally, a rapid and steep descent that puts a strain on ankles and knees. Total ride duration approximately 6 hours.
From Portole to the fork of salt about an hour of very steep ascent on a concrete road. Not very exciting !! The rest deserves instead. Beautiful walk often on the ridge with a view on both sides - Lake Iseo always beautiful and Val Trompia
