The Fohlenhaus rock formation in the Lone Valley is a prehistoric relic, created from the reefs of the Jura Sea and petrified into rock over millions of years. It is clearly visible on a meander of the Lone river and the beautiful rest area next door invites you to barbecue…

The Whitsun holidays have just remembered that it is summer and let the moisture of the past weeks steam from the sparsely blooming meadows. Sheep clouds move in small herds across the blue sky and down on the meadow green I stroll through the Lone Valley. The foal house circuit under your feet. Announced and professionally signposted, as if it were the non-plus-ultra of the Alb, you wait a long time for something exciting. The path runs more contemplatively through dry valleys. Only a few short ascents and descents mark an expiring Alb in the east. Accustomed to other things from the middle Alb, I miss the gnarled beeches and the roots on the steep climbs through crevices. But I am satisfied. At least nobody in the family complains about too much effort. In principle, we are on a leisurely stroll through the young summer. It's hot, occasionally colorful butterflies flutter through our small team, bluebells and knapweeds fight for attention with the yellow of the gorse. You immerse yourself in the aromatic scent of the warm pine tree and walk cheerfully on your way. At the actual destination of the round - the eponymous Fohlenhaushöhle - you stroll past, of course. The hiking trail affords the luxury of not directly embedding the cave. So we make a loop and after an extra kilometer and a half we find this remarkable rock, which characterizes the panorama on the impact slope of the Meander Loop. The low mountain ridge made of Jurassic rock, which leads back to the main path from here, is short, but the most beautiful section of the entire hike. Alb area with roots that cross the path and are suitable both as a climbing aid and as a trip hazard. The rest of the lap can be interpreted as a way back. Forest, hiking trails, a few benches and one kilometer before the end of the round there is a pretty single trail through a small sea of rocks. Conclusion: quiet terrain for an uncomplicated round, especially suitable if you don't want to overexert yourself.
Hello my dears! ☺️I want to know today whether a longer tour is already possible ... yes, I know..I wanted to be good, I promised you ... and I was anyway..😌 because I was looking for a tour with little altitude ..because that is what is just not possible at the moment. Uuuund there I just looked through the Ice Age Paths or the valleys and decided on the Ice Age Path Fohlenhausrunde. It was about an hour's drive, but I just felt like it. It starts at the Salzbühl parking lot. Then you cross the Lone for the first time ... um ... okay ... the Lone ... a small river, I thought ... just right for Zoya, I thought ... turns blue too shown on my map ... but ... there was no water ... and so it was with me the whole time ... you can see the barrel but everything is completely dry ... now of course Sandy Googled .. I would have yes you can do it beforehand. It is a dry valley! The Lone hardly ever has water ... but that in no way harms the tour. Because this is beautiful. So it went over a meadow path into a beautiful forest path ... it blooms, and green and chirps in the trees ... and the sun was also mighty shining ... after a while there is a small footpath, the one with roots and stones strewn, to the foal house. The landmark of the Lone Valley. The foal house consists of a large rock with two caves, there were references to prehistoric settlements, but the spectacular finds can be found downstream in the caves ... I want to go there too, that is the Neanderthal Trail😍. From a distance with a lot of imagination you should be able to recognize a foal, hence the name. I didn't recognize it.😳😂 Only now on the picture (picture 13 - yeah, that could be a foal☺️) You then go back down the beaten path, you could also walk the gravel path, but there are more of the cyclists on the way. Then it goes slightly uphill on a beautiful forest path, then again over the Lone, then again on the meadow path ... and over a small bridge ... still no water for Zoya😎. Then it goes to the Trutteltal, beautiful ... the trees, the green ... it's a wide valley and wonderful to run. Then it goes up and down again, on the beaten track and then finally there was water ... and a fox ... crouching in the grass ... he was already a long way away ... but you recognized him ... well me ... and then he said he had to move away and jet off ... the Zoya then also jetted ... she probably thought hey, that's my brother or sister from Turkey or something. ..because the fur color is almost the same ... after a few meters she noticed that I was not following but was already walking up the path ... because in such an action the Zoya's ears are switched on, luckily only for what felt like 5 seconds ... that's really great with her ... anyway. then I have to be on the leash for 5 minutes as a "punishment" ... uh ... somehow I have to show who is wearing the pants or something like that .. At the top, it goes on on a plateau and then back into the valley. ... the Ashen valley .... everything was wonderfully green ... that was so beautiful and it was also the turn of the next bath .... then it goes back up through the forest, on a beautiful forest path .... then you get there back outside and then ... then it started to RAIN ... and how ... such a real April shower ... oh, it's May ... then I don't know right as I should call it😂😂. The plateau was covered with some rapeseed fields and the wonderful clouds were simply beautiful to look at. After 20 minutes it stopped again ... so we hiked further on meadows, then down again on gravel paths ... then it goes again over a bridge and right along then on gravel path to the Salzbühlfelsen. And then we were back at the parking lot ...... today I saw plants that I don't even know ... maybe you can help me again dear Carola? Picture 4 + 17, looks a bit like cuckoo flower, but is much bigger ... also the leaves ... Picture 15 is not a plant, but a tree whose growth is twisted ... I got that from Peter Wohlleben (well-known forester and author of, for example, The common life of trees) found out that this protects the tree from storms ... it had no more bark ... and you can really see it there. Then there are pictures 59 and 61 ... I don't know either ... I think I have to take my flower and plant book with me next time😎. But dear Carola can certainly help me☺️☺️☺️.
Ice Age Trails 2/20 ✅️ I've already hiked to the Fohlenhaus twice, both times in the snow and as my own creation. Today I decided to take the official Fohlenhaus trail; everything there is currently in bloom. The first few kilometers are a bit boring, then the first beautiful trails begin. I had planned it so that the highlights of the Fohlenhaus and Salzbühlhöhle come at the end, so there's something to look forward to. However, the route at the Fohlenhaus itself is very illogical; it would be better to turn left beforehand and then exit directly at the caves, instead of hiking the same trail twice, as pretty as it is.
@Nicole mit Henry Our Saturday ride was lovely again, one of my two weekly highlights 😘
A very beautiful, well-marked circular hiking trail with varied sections
Last night I thought that with this wonderful weather I could go hunting for snowdrops in the Lone Valley. The Fohlenhaus route is always nice and relaxed, there are hardly any people around and I was hoping for the first signs of spring... Shortly after the start of the tour there was a big surprise, I met the lovely @Annett with her partner 🤩 We were very happy and we had a little chat before we continued in the opposite direction... As expected, I hardly met any other people. Instead I found snowdrops, my first daisy and the first brimstone butterfly of the year, loads of snowdrops, a handful of cup fungi 🔴 and liverworts 💜 The sun was shining the whole time, even with a little power to warm me up. Today was a beautiful hike that did me a lot of good and gave me a good sense of the coming spring 💓🌸
I walked the official Fohlenhaus circular hiking trail today. And even though I have been here in the Lone Valley countless times, it is always beautiful and different in every season. And this circular hiking trail mostly leads along narrow paths and trails, which I like.
The Fohlenhaus round was planned for today, no matter what the weather 😅 The rain had a big advantage, we were alone for almost the entire tour 😁 @Nicole mit Henry and Henry, as always, it was a real pleasure to run this wonderful tour together with you two 😍 We followed the signs exactly, apart from a small diversion, and were able to experience the wonderfully beautiful and steep paths that led up and down the hill between mossy stones and tree trunks... So we not only had the Fohlenhaus cave and the subsequent root path as a highlight, but also a large part of the way👍👍👍 Be sure to follow exactly the same way ‼️‼️
