Villa Torlonia (The Tower)

Highlight • Historical Site

Villa Torlonia (La Torre) is located at the extreme limit of San Mauro Pascoli, a municipality in the province of Forlì Cesena, and is at the center of what were the rural estates owned by the Torlonia family, once administered by Giovanni Pascoli's father, Ruggero .
The Tower hosted the painful maturation of Pascoli's poetry; it was from here that his father had left that 10 August 1867, with the gig pulled by the famous starling mare, never to return, murdered by strangers on his return from the Cesena market.
At that point the Pascoli family had to leave the Torlonia farm and return to their birthplace in the center of the town.
...
On the sides of the main building, protruding forward, two smaller buildings: one served as the farmer's house, as a warehouse and shelter for tools; the other, on the opposite side, is the nineteenth-century church of SS. Peter and Paul, which has remained intact, where Masses are still celebrated; leaning against the church was the apartment of the Pascoli family, where the family lived from 1862 to 1867.

With the Torlonia family, the Torre became a model agricultural company and continued to prosper until the end of the Second World War; on the death of Don Giovanni Torlonia the grandchildren sold the property which was the scene of great peasant struggles in the early 1950s to prevent the estate from being dismembered.
The farms were eventually purchased by individuals and the building passed to private owners.
Since 1983 Villa Torlonia has been owned by the municipality: from that moment the restoration phase has begun which has restored and will bring the Villa back to its ancient splendor.
...
Villa Torlonia is also an integral part, together with the birthplace, of the Parco Poesia Pascoli, a participatory cultural project that aims to enhance the poetry of Giovanni Pascoli linked to San Mauro, the birthplace of the Poet, and to a whole territory and its excellence. .

Trail Reviews

Davide
November 21, 2021, A/R: Sentieri per l'uso - Da Bellaria a Villa Torlonia - 21.11.2021

Paths for use - From Bellaria to Villa Torlonia Path taken from "Paths - Rimini paths between nature and history", hiking guide of the province of Rimini, a guide only in pdf downloadable at the following link: https://www.riviera.rimini.it/publication/sentieri.html Path: Bellaria - Cycle and pedestrian path Paths of Use - Bridge over the Rio Salto - Via Viona - Villa Torlonia (La Torre) and the Poesia Pascoli Park - Return on the same path Easy route, totally flat, on dirt roads, beaten paths and short stretches of asphalt near the Villa Torlonia. A bit monotonous to do it on foot, the landscape is very anonymous but the destination (Villa Torlonia) is certainly worth admiring. A few lateral deviations to discover the beautiful and short circular path where the trees are inclined almost to create the vaults of a porch. Suitable for dogs: Ni Avoid the summer period and hot days. The path is all in the sun and the presence of the few trees on the side of the track I do not know how much shade they can make ..... today a gray day. Asphalt section with almost no traffic. Sources of water: none More info on the route: https://www.comune.bellaria-igea-marina.rn.it/citta/cms/page/territorio-sentieri_uso/ The site of the Parco Poesia Pascoli where Villa Torlonia is located: https://parcopoesiapascoli.it/
