Hiking

This easy 3.6-mile (5.7 km) loop offers a diverse and scenic hike through the Peak District, with only 355 feet (108 metres) of elevation gain, taking about 1 hour and 35 minutes to complete. You'll walk through hedged sections, paved paths, and open fields, experiencing both rocky parts and peaceful riverside settings. As you hike, you'll enjoy elevated views across the picturesque Vale of Edale, with glimpses of prominent landmarks like Mam Tor and Lose Hill in the distance. The route also takes you through charming hamlets such as Upper Booth and Barber Booth, giving you a taste of local character.

Starting from Edale, a well-known hub for walkers, you'll find excellent facilities including pubs, cafes, and a visitor center before you set off. This trail is considered easy to fairly easy, making it suitable for most fitness levels and skill sets. Be aware that some sections can be rocky, and you might encounter muddy conditions, especially after rainfall. The varied terrain includes gravel, natural paths, asphalt, and unpaved sections, so wear appropriate footwear.

This loop offers a gentle introduction to the beautiful Vale of Edale and notably samples the opening section of the Pennine Way, Britain's famous long-distance hiking trail. You'll pass through Upper Booth Farm, a National Trust property that includes a seasonal campsite and camping barn. The surrounding area is rich with stunning scenery, featuring Kinder Scout to the north and the Great Ridge of Mam Tor to the south.
