Hiking

This Tour proposes a trip to the "El Capitan" of the Brenta. The Croz dell'Altissimo is in fact made up of a rock formation with a wall of almost 900 meters that descends overhanging the Val delle Seghe.

This is a very varied hike and entirely doable for the average hiker - the last stretch to get to the cross is slightly more tortuous than the rest of the route, but nothing impossible though. Starting from Pradel, the first stop will be the La Montanara refuge, the first point where you can admire the splendid view of the eastern Brenta and the colossal wall of the Croz dell'Altissimo, the summit of which is the destination of this Tour. Continuing north, shortly after the Montanara, the real ascent of the excursion begins. From this point on the climb will be mostly constant until the finish.

Having reached the Palon di Tovre (about 2,000 m) you are about halfway there. At this point the vegetation becomes increasingly sparse, revealing an undoubtedly more alpine terrain. As a result, the views and landscapes are getting wider and wider. Continuing you then arrive at Passo di Lasteri and finally at Cima del Croz. On the way back you can retrace the same route, or turn left to find a slightly gentler descent, completing a (semi) loop.

You can reach Pradel with the panoramic cable car which leaves from the upper part of Molveno, where you will find a paid car park adjacent to the ski lift. Eventually you can shorten this tour slightly by starting from Montanara, then taking the second chairlift. There are no fountains or refreshment points on the trail, so I recommend that you pack water and food in your rucksack.

View of the Brenta Dolomites

Highlight • Viewpoint

It is perhaps one of the most distinctive views of the Brenta in the whole park. It's impossible not to give in to the need to stop, even for a moment, to admire the view from this well-known vantage point.

Croz dell'Altissimo

Highlight • Summit

For a summit of the Brenta Dolomites, the Croz dell'Altissimo is almost a breeze. But beware: although you reach the summit via a signposted hiking trail, you should bring enough condition, sturdy footwear and sure-footedness. Especially the last meters to the summit lead over narrow and stony paths. At the top you will be rewarded with a fantastic view of the main summits of the Brenta Dolomites.
