In the Hutewald you can discover some bizarre tree shapes that look as if they had escaped from a fantasy novel. The mysterious forest came about through centuries of grazing. In the part that is still grazed with two tarpans in the summer, you can discover a beautiful heath landscape.
At the start or finish there is a small leisure facility with a forest stage and barbecue area.

The Hutewald hiking trail in Rengshausen is the oldest nature reserve in the Schwalm Eder district. There are many old trees here that are around 300 years old, you can see them standing far apart, that used to be used for agricultural purposes. Dormice, owls and stock doves as well as species of small birds and insects find shelter in the old trees. My hiking highlight was the sessile oak, very impressive as it and other giants can be seen on the route. "What can she tell you?" The signposting of the way is very good, which I noticed very positively. Almost the entire route is completely natural.
I've already walked the round when it was only called Hutewaldrunde, without Fabelweg 😊. The round is nice, but not as varied as the other fable trails that we have already hiked. Unfortunately the snow there wasn't as spectacular as I had hoped. Compared to this morning at -12 degrees I was sweating uphill at -4 degrees. But Archie liked the round, obviously there was a lot to sniff. He finds some lonely forest stretches terribly boring.
Today we had a winter hike planned. Unfortunately, some paths were destroyed by forestry work, which means you walk ankle-deep in mud even at -2.5 degrees. But the reward was great landscapes :-)
An absolutely fantastic forest hiking trail. Not strenuous. Slight inclines.
My path should lead me through the Hutewald 🌳 Rengshausen today. Past ancient beeches and oaks, along the Waltersberg (466 m)⛰️and up to the Schilling (468 m)⛰️and the Mühlberg (469 m)⛰️. On the way, hikers can expect wonderful views 👀 of the Alheimer (549 m) near Rotenburg an der Fulda, the Great Inselberg in Thuringia (916 m), the Knüllköpfchen (634 m) and the "Hohen Meißner" (754 m). With today's weather conditions ☁️, however, it remained a view of the Knüllköpfchen and the Alheimer. A beautiful low mountain range landscape full of impressive forest pictures - that's what the Hutewaldweg offers. The eponymous Hutewald is particularly magical with its often bizarre, around 300-year-old trees. With its very own animal and plant world, it has been under nature protection for years. Where once poor forest farmers tended their cattle, fantastic giant trees have emerged over the years. Beeches with expansive treetops are far apart from each other and are often reminiscent of mystical beings. This fabulous atmosphere will not only fire the imagination of children... isn't the old beech tree there an "Ent" from "Lord of the Rings"? The typical character of the unique forest is preserved today through grazing with wild horses. At the start and end of the hike, a barbecue area with a forest stage and water treading pool invites you to take a longer break. After successful re-certification by the German Hiking Institute, the Hutewaldweg is officially a premium hiking trail. Butterflies in November, today Hutewald Rengshausen, in the Knüll Nature Park. https://www.naturpark-knuell.de/media/touren/fabelweg-hutewaldweg#/article/ecc04579-52fd-4b90-bd1f-d37fe64e5adf
A beautiful walk through the Knüll. The old grazing trees are up to 390 years old.
Today I was on this premium trail in the Knüllwald. That was a very varied tour with a great jungle feeling in many places. Great round for hot days, as you are mostly in the shade.
